As a german, I can actually say that Fassbinder is not a "masterful" director... however, World on a Wire is probably the best german film (rendering my previous statement completely absurd). If Criterion picks this one up, I would be more than grateful!!
captveg wrote:First Umbrellas of Cherbourg is strongly hinted at by Criterion Cast, and now Three Colors Trilogy is basically confirmed by Criterion's twitter? I'm in Criterion heaven!
Could you please link to that tweet? If this is real, then I am in heaven as well, as my DVD's of the trilogy... well, the old versions look like pudding.

It's World on a Wire. They just put a new poster up on Facebook (done by Smith) and annouced a theatrical run for the film.

Regarding Umbrellas Of Cherbourg, think it may have been one of the threads here, likely this very one, where it was speculated. One of their LD titles. Hope it turns real.
Along with Three Colors and Welt Am Draht, time will seem to be standing still until at least one of them comes out. Then the next. Then the next. Kind of like one of those days at work where it's 1:00 and six hours later it's made it to 1:30.

Ryan predicted it back on the eve of the April announcement for the July titles back on page 45 of this thread. He then followed it up a few posts later with the following:
RyanGallagher wrote:I'm not 100% on Demy, just a gut feeling, but nothing confirmed.
I think Jeff summed it up the best when he stated:
Jeff wrote:Didn't realize it was a possibility, but now I'm intrigued. I imagine Ryan's "guess" is based on something. Doesn't look like it's going to be this month, but perhaps it's in the works.
To which Ryan followed with:
RyanGallagher wrote:It's not looking good for Umbrellas of Cherbourg today [for July release]. But who knows, maybe Criterion will surprise us all.
In summary, is it true? One can only hope. But Ryan's track record about these things is pretty strong, to put it mildly.

Isn't the Rapture and a Criterion Blu-ray of
Umbrellas of Cherbourg the same thing?

No, that would be the introduction of some Rivette.

You're both wrong, Criterion double release of 4 Devils and The Devils, which would actually make a great theme month.

No, no, no, it's The Decalogue, which will prepare us for the rapture in its examination of the Judeo/Christian ethical tradition, and will bring us salvation from the hell of Facets.

I'm sure this belongs in another thread, dedicated to the film, but I thought I'd post it here since there was some recent talk about it.
I emailed Mosfilms about Stalker getting a US Blu-ray release, and this is what they had to say:
"Please be advised that so far there are no plans for Blu-ray of STALKER, 1979, director Andrey Tarkovsky, for the US."
So, there you go.

Could this mean we're getting STALKER, 2003, director Vinit Borrison?

Sorry for the interruption, but this
nolanoe wrote:As a german, I can actually say that Fassbinder is not a "masterful" director
can not stand uncommented. Anyone (especially german!) claiming that Fassbinder is not "masterful" disqualifies in a cinephilic discussion.

Hold up a minute, how on Earth does being German give you more authority to say that? On a related note, as an American, I can actually say that apple pie is delicious.

I actually got some made-for-TV sleaze thriller when I tried to reserve the Tarkovsky at the library as a young'un years ago.
