Personally speaking, I'm not.Mr Finch wrote:Nick & co must be anticipating decent sales for a DVD of M in spite of the Criterion and the previous Eureka disc.
So, given that there is already an excellent Criterion of this and that hence many people would appear to be interested in the Blu-Ray only, what exactly is the reasoning behind reissuing M on SD? Also, the Blu-Ray is currently not showing on the site. Is it still happening (on time or delayed?) or has it been cancelled altogether (if it has been cancelled, was it because the materials weren't deemed good enough for 1080p)? I've said it elsewhere but I'd have picked City Girl for a dual release and released M on Blu only. It's not just because I don't have the Murnau-Borzage set. I actually bought my first Blu with AE's Zatoichi yesterday and will get one of the modified Panasonic players possibly in April, so would consider getting City Girl on Blu. It just seems an odd decision to reissue M on DVD when your own sales projections and peoples' proclaimed interest in the title appear to be in favour of Blu.peerpee wrote:Mr Finch wrote:Nick & co must be anticipating decent sales for a DVD of M in spite of the Criterion and the previous Eureka disc.

It's a tough one to decide between your edition and the Criterion on DVD! Both have a lot of unique extras. I think the two comms and the English version of M swings it your way though, and your cover is fantastic.peerpee wrote:M will be DVD and BD.
M is a key title which sells more than an average title of ours and Eureka would like it on DVD as well, even though it will probably sell the same number as the BD.

No I haven't, I was just curious that's all as to whether they weren't included due to licensing issues or whether you simply chose to leave them out as they weren't worth includingpeerpee wrote:In haste --- have you seen those old extras? We didn't think they were great.
The restoration piece was about an SD restoration-which-we're-not-using. Everything else is covered, either in the commentaries or the booklet.
Its a landmark classic arriving on blu ray; you'll kick yourself in a year if you get the DVD now. IMO.TMDaines wrote:No I haven't, I was just curious that's all as to whether they weren't included due to licensing issues or whether you simply chose to leave them out as they weren't worth includingpeerpee wrote:In haste --- have you seen those old extras? I've been waiting for you to announce your specs for M to decide whether to pluck for the Criterion currently on sale at Amazon or whether to wait for yours. I think I'll wait for yours as you seem to have done it again and drawn up a more inticing line-up than Criterion yet again, like with Vampyr and Francesco giullare di Dio. Whether I'll go for the DVD or BD all depends on whether I get lucky at Aldi this Christmas. But M's one film I'm willing to break my "Don't buy the DVD if there is a BD you'll want in a year's time" rule for, that's for sure.
Having never seen it before I'd rather be able to see it now-ish on DVD and lose a few quid buying and selling the DVD and then buying the Blu-ray, then I would having to wait over a year and a half just to watch it on Blu. Unless I can pick up a region-free Blu-ray player at Aldi this Christmas then I won't be going Blu-ray until I return from my year abroad in Italy and Germany as part of my degree (Summer 2011!). Blame the idiots who devised region-coding as that is literally the only thing preventing me from going Blu right now. I refuse to buy a player that won't be able to at least play Region A + B, and all regions of DVDs.Ben Cheshire wrote:Its a landmark classic arriving on blu ray; you'll kick yourself in a year if you get the DVD now. You can say no if you are a student! If I can get the cheap Aldi Tevion then I'll be happy but I really can't look to spend anymore than that right now, especially if it is just going to spend the majority of the next year and a half sitting on my shelf in my room, whilst I am across Europe somewhere. Like I said, M will be the exception to the rule of buying DVDs if there is a good Blu-ray available that I know I will want.Mr Finch wrote:As I said in my last post, there are UK stores offering modified Blu-Ray players which will play everything. The Panasonic BD60 and 80 look like great choices for budget-conscious folks since the Oppo is still rather pricey.

For £310 you can't really say no to that, and the BD60 has been getting great reviews. If I was you, I'd try to hold out if you are likely to be able to afford a BR player within the next 12 months. The Blu-Ray will be cheaper by the time you have your player and in the meantime you could tide yourself over with DVD-only titles of other films you're looking forward to in 2010.
Daines, if my post sounded like I was being judgemental or dismissive of your circumstances, then I'd like to apologise whole-heartedly and reassure you that all I meant to say that it was just a pretty enticing offer. I hear you re finances and other commitments: if it wasn't for the annual bonus payments my company gives out and the fact that at some point me and my partner will be able to share living costs etc when he gets a job after our marriage, I couldn't afford Blu-Ray as soon as April. In hindsight I wish I'd have waited with some purchases (Mankind on Blu instead of DVD) but c'est la vie.TMDaines wrote:You can say no if you are a student! Don't worry it didn't come across that way.Mr Finch wrote:Daines, if my post sounded like I was being judgemental or dismissive of your circumstances, then I'd like to apologise whole-heartedly and reassure you that all I meant to say that it was just a pretty enticing offer. #6 is Fantastic Planet.james wrote:Lots of new numbers added to MoC's catalogue. Any guesses as to titles (especially the two for Blu)?
