Robert Downey Sr. [a prince] stops by the Criterion product closet!
Fixed.

Eclipse possibility?

Criterion mentioned two years ago that they'd love to do an Eclipse set, but that it didn't look likely at that time. It was also mentioned that Downey himself confirmed earlier this year that Criterion had his first three or four films. I'd imagine an Eclipse of those would make the most sense. Perhaps Putney Swope (a former HVe title), Pound, or Greaser's Palace are in line for more lavish treatment?

Greaser's Palace is a no go as it already has a US DVD release in print.

I didn't realise Putney Swope was OOP. That seems a strong possibility for the main line.

I don't think it is. My use of "former" was just connoting HVe's former relationship with Criterion. Since that disc has some decent supplements and Greaser's Palace appears to also still be in print (which I didn't realize), perhaps a "The First Films of Robert Downey Sr." Eclipse set is indeed all that's in the offing for now.

Watchmaker Films, along with Benten Films, were going to release a three-film set but since they seem about as lively as Fantoma lately, maybe Criterion got ahold of those.

I want to say that's a still from The Lady Vanishes but I can't see them making a cover out of it.

Haven't they used ultra zoomed in stills before as hints (that weren't the covers)? I am thinking of the Ray film that just came out (Music Room).

from another board:
That's the smudge left after the tea label is blown off the train window...I think that happens after the name on the window sequence. Haven't seen this film in a while

^^That's my guess in confirmation that the hint is for The Lady Vanishes.

Definitely from The Lady Vanishes. Probably not the cover, just a hint at what tomorrow holds.

Ah, one of my favorite Hitchcocks. Will gladly upgrade to Blu, especially since I passed on the upgraded DVD due to getting into Blu-ray around that time. Glad I held out.

And Putney Swope was released under the HVE imprint after Image acquired HVE. Although it's likely that all production on the disc had been done by HVE prior to the acquisition...it's not like Image was actually going to do any work on it.
