Looks like they could be the two Gaumont is set to release in September: LE BEAU SERGE (Claude Chabrol, 1958) and LES COUSINS (Claude Chabrol, 1959)...

Bring'em on then, bro, before I fall asleep.

great news about the Chabrols, since I had these mixed up in my mind thinking they were rumored for Sept anyways.

So far, pretty much the obvious:

The Phantom Carriage
Les Cousins
Le Beau Serge
Wild Strawberries

I'm thinking we are getting an upgrade of either Jeanne Dielman or Salo too.

Altman coming (prob upgrade 3 Women).

With Naked in July, it's probably Short Cuts. If Warners let them have blu ray rights, they should make an effort to bring back the novel with the Carver shorts. (Doubt it)

I wonder if the Chabrols will be in the new cheaper "no features" releases or will both be packed with features?

The only features free disc they've put out in the blu era is Makioka Sisters, which is pretty much universally seen as a minor entry by Ichikawa. I would imagine that the Chabrols are going to be big banner titles from a major director they haven't touched before- I'll be disappointed if they don't roll out something impressive for the features.

Ryan seemed to indicate that another tweeter assuming it was an upgrade was making an ass out of u and me...

I would die of excitement if we were getting The Long Goodbye or Images from MGM, McCabe and Mrs. Miller from Warner or Nashville from their 2nd Paramount deal...maybe even Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean Jimmy Dean from God knows where?!?!

No, it's probably a 3 Women BLU Upgrade. (Ryan probably meant that Short Cuts was incorrect, not the upgrade.)

3 Women was teased by them on facebook a month or 2 ago, so that is where my guess came from.

3 Women would work for me, since that and Tanner '88 are the only Altmans they've put out I don't have yet. And I'd be pretty shocked if they put Tanner '88 on blu.

Sisters was teased around the same time, so we could see that in this or next month's announcements as well (prob next month for October).

Quick question, is there a good chance that when a film gets a new transfer and is shown at Anthology Film Archives, it could make it's way to Criterion?

Ha Carlos. Finally. Probably because no one was predicting it.

Officially (so far):

2 Charbols (Presumably The Cousins and Le beau Serge)
Altman BLU (Presumably 3 Women)
Carlos

The Phantom Carriage
Les Cousins
Le Beau Serge
Wild Strawberries
Carlos
3 Women

Feels like that should be it.

Why are we so sure on Wild Strawberries and The Phantom Carriage, CG?

^Well Phantom Carriage has been teased like Black Moon (first a wacky animal newsletter clue, that leads to a Facebook Cover tease, then an announcement). Wild Strawberries just seems obvious to come along for the ride.

Ryan tweeted : "I really should take the time to finish watching Carlos on Netflix Watch Instantly". Looks like he is just dropping hints instead of trailers this time.

Oh. I don't know that I would take that as Gospel, although I guess if it's coming out this year (as the New Year clue would imply) it's pretty much got to be this month or next.

^ Sam Smith replied to it, and Ryan did say he thinks Sam made 2 covers this month (most likely Carlos and Phantom Carriage).

Yeah, his "I'll just wait" response makes it seem pretty clear.

I wonder if we're going to get a second Chaplin release this year? I'm dying for City Lights.

November again could be a pretty good time to announce City Lights. Another stacked November if we get something like City Lights, World on a Wire, Three Colors, Soft Skin, etc.

It would be just wonderful, though highly doutful, if a re-issue of 3 Women included some new features, as the current edition is a bit sparse. Interviews with Sissy Spacek and Shelley Duvall would be fantastic.

Both have been rumored, but I admittedly give the one about Gates of Heaven more credence. Speaking of documentaries, when is The War Room coming out? I don't think it will be announced today, but it can't be much farther out, right?

About a year ago Criterion asked for suggestions regarding Universal and pre-1948 Paramount titles. Topsy-Turvy seems to be the only Universal title that has been announced/released since that. Have there been any news or hints other than Island of Lost Souls?
