Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vo
With The Phantom Carriage being a given, I was wondering what extras might be included. The Picture Makers has been talked about before now, but I think that Duvivier's Charrette fantôme would be just as wonderful an addition. Of course, both would be ideal, but it seems unlikely that Criterion would go to the trouble of making this a two-disc, $50 set.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vo
I'm guessing The Image Makers/Picture Makers is more likely than the Duvivier considering the Bergman connection, and the fact a master exists which was used for the previous UK dvd. I haven't seen the Duvivier though, any good?

Speaking of Duvivier, would be nice to see an Eclipse set from him.

I'm thinking that Umbrellas of Cherbourg could be among today's announcements, and Red River should be in there.

I don't know if it's significant, but that's the pic CC posted when they said they'd be making September announcements today.

Is the Bergman trailer regarding Phantom Carriage a subtle hint at Wild Strawberries?

Les Cousins will almost surely port over Adrian Martin's stellar commentary from the Madman disc*CG* wrote:I wonder if the Chabrols will be in the new cheaper "no features" releases or will both be packed with features?

It's probably Carlos, but man, what I wouldn't do to make it the Hollis Frampton set.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vo
Hmm I thought Carlos as well at first.... but thinking about it; the UK Blu is 3 disks, with 50 mins of extras. Would Criterion really squeeze it down 50GB less? Possibly I guess... and Ryan usually posts all the trailers to the new titles, so I doubt there's going to be any more surprises (maybe an Eclipse set like the Rossellini prt 2) and the upgrades.. We'll see

Sounds like a collection of films. Hollis Frampton?

I do hope it's Hollis Frampton. Than again I've been trying to squeeze down to only one pre-order a month and I couldn't choose between the Chabrols and him.

Some are saying the 4 DVD set may be a double Chabrol set. La Ceremonie and Le Beau Serge could be two possibilities. La Ceremonie has been put up on Hulu, so I'd say it's game.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vo
I sort of doubt the 4 DVD set is the Chabrol. The titles are Beau Serge and Cousins that they are releasing. La Ceremonie (as well as Story of Women and Masques) are Janus properties, but they were released on the HVE label several years ago, a sign that Criterion already passed on them once. And it seems strange that both the Chabrol titles would warrant 2 discs each, but that's just a guess.rrenault wrote:Some are saying the 4 DVD set may be a double Chabrol set. Isn't the 4 DVD set going to be Carlos?

No Kuroneko or Island of Lost Souls for Halloween, either. I hope November's an extra big month, they've got a lot of stuff that needs getting out this year.
That said, any month that Phantom Carriage is announced isn't a bad month.

Ah they're only including the TV cut of Carlos, hence the 2 Blus. Fine by me!
