Well, you can always specify that you require final cut when the deal is signed, which these filmmakers apparently did not do.

I trust you are not being serious? Directors who can pull that kind of stunt can be counted on your thumbs.

Or an other way of phrasing things, even The Beard couldn't get financing with final cut on an adaptation of a hugely and internationally popular adventure series.

The dialog is certainly not easy to understand, so I doubt he went that far. And there's only one short title card, and it's quite funny and inoffensive.

Two Spike Lee projects announced today. Both remakes/sequels.

He's started production on "Red Hook Summer" a sequel to "Do the Right Thing". He will again be playing the Mookie character.

After that, he'll do a big budget remake of "Oldboy".

The next installment of the Evil Dead series is going into production in Detroit. Bruce Campbell is back but Raimi isn't. It's being handled by some first time director. Raimi's production company is producing. Suppose to be a low budget indie.

Manoel de Oliveira, 102, has a new French-language project announced, "Gebo and the Shadow". Shooting starts late August/early September in Paris. Michel Piccoli, Ricardo Trepa and Leonor Silveira star. The film is based on a 1923 play by Portuguese author Raul Brandao.

Wasn't he one of the names thrown around for Kill Bill? Or am I imagining that?

It shouldn't come as a surprise: Tarantino's a huge fan of Revenge.

As everyone should be. Costner is also pretty great in Mr. Brooks.

It's true, but Kevin was busy doing Open Range.

That still appears to betray Prometheus' origin as an Alien movie (big glass bulb helmet, hydraulic and junky space machinery, atmosphere a thick soup of blowing particles).

Well Scott is claiming that it still exists within the same universe so similar tech is reasonable.

So wait, is Prometheus a prequel to Alien or not? I read it wasn't, then heard it could be construed as one even if the stories don't explicitly interweave with one another, then that the two had nothing to do with each other? Is there any article online that can clarify this?

It takes place in the same universe-- Charlize Theron just revealed (at Comic Con I think) that her role is as CEO of "The Company" from the first films

Watch the video I posted around the top of the page as suggested, and you'll get a good idea of what it is without being spoiled.

That picture makes me long for a Busby Berkeley-style musical version of an Alien film.

Charlie Kaufman is returning to the director's chair next year with Frank or Francis. Jack Black, Nicolas Cage and Steve Carell are currently attached. There doesn't seem to be a logline available yet.

Rumored plot according to the AV Club:
Kaufman has been prepping the project for a while, which is rumored to be a musical about a director’s war with the showbiz blogger who regularly insults him

 Oh man. When directors start saying they're making a musical it usually means we can expect their most unhinged unedited possibly ill-advised movie. I'm sure this won't be a musical-musical. More like when Richard Kelly kept saying Southland Tales was a musical before it came out. I do have faith in Kaufman though.

Remember the last time Cage made a 'musical'? Let's hope it's half that good.

Hm. I wonder what's to come of his project with Spike Jonze. I really hope it's not another situation where Jonze has backed out of making a Kaufman project.
