I hope not. It seems a bit wishy-washy compositionally as a poster (the colour scheme, for instance, just makes the central focus of the image tend to vanish), so it's just going to look even weaker at a reduced size.

Hitchcock is nice, and, in the faintest of praise, The Gold Rush is better than the other Chaplins.

Of course the weakest Chaplin feature gets the first great cover.

Notice the Chaplin doesn't have a year on the side of the cover yet.

I was going to say, the Chaplin is not great, but it's leaps and bounds better than the other two. And The 39 Steps is fantastic. Already better than last month.

Actually, I like the Chaplin cover. Other one's as well so far.

That Gray's Anatomy cover is fantastic.

They should really go with the original release year on there; nobody (with the possible exception of the Chaplin Estate) thinks of it as a 1942 release.

That Shallow Grave cover is an all-time great.

The 39 Steps cover is terrific, precisely capturing the tone of the film and attractive to boot.

I really like the Gold Rush cover as well, really Chaplin-esque, and it gets the character of the Tramp just right. In general terms, it's an image that I can imagine being used on posters at the time. I was really worried that they'd try some smartass thing with his shoe.

And speaking of smartass, the Shallow Grave art is a little offputting to me. I haven't seen the film, so for all I know it's appropriate, but to me it looks like fan art by someone who really wanted to communicate how clever they are more than they want to communicate anything about the movie.

INSANITY-- the original the Gold Rush is BY FAR the best thing Chaplin ever did

Agree to disagree. For me only Modern Times and Limelight are of any interest from the features.

As for the covers, the 39 Steps is godawful but the rest are pretty good

I like the covers this month. Even the Chaplin! I'm interested to know what is Shallow Grave now.
