So we might see titles such as Polanski's 'Death And The Maiden' and Levinson's 'Wag The Dog'. That would be very welcome.
Also, does anyone know if this deal covers those Paramount titles for which Warner now has BD/DVD distribution rights?

MY MAN GODFREY BD upgrade (please!)
THE OXBOW INCIDENT BD & DVD
BOUDU SAVED FROM DROWNING BD upgrade

So I guess the Grand Illusion pic that everyone got excited about was for the coffee table book. Still, it doesn't sound completely hopeless for Studio Canal titles.

But it'd been doctored with the wacky 'C'! Why would they do that just for their dumb book?!

Well isn't The Vanishing now Studio Canal as well? If so, maybe we won't have to worry about our potentially defective Pierrot discs after all.

Correct.
Great news! Hope they'll include all three edits, including that elusive 150-minute premiere cut.
Paul Meier who published "One Big Soul - An Oral History of Terrence Malick"
said on facebook that Malick is rumored to have edited a 4th cut in 2013 or 2014.

Satyricon
Roma
Every Man for Himself
Grand Illusion (I still think this is coming forth, especially with the potential Man Who Fell to Earth release)
Sullivan's Travels/Complete Sturges (upgrade)

No,
there was no wacky 'C.'

Wasn't that likely just a photo of a bunch of their books? Even though it's OOP, they probably still have some copies in their offices. If it were a photo of new copies of the
Man Who Fell book, that would mean that they'd already been printed and shipped to Criterion from the plant, yet it hasn't even been announced that it will be coming back.
This Instagram stuff is dangerous.

You're right, by gum.
Has anyone asked yet why they do their proofing by campfire?

With only one of them in HD.

Very disappointing that there was no mention of any more forthcoming Universal properties.

Which makes it all the more bizarre to me that a number of folks seem to be predicting a "complete Preston Sturges" box. Which I'm guessing should also include a Paramount title. What evidence is there that Criterion might be doing more than upgrading to Blu
Sullivan's Travels and
The Lady Eve?
As for the Wexner talk about a WB deal, that's awesome. And I agree with those excited about special editions of
The New World,
McCabe & Mrs. Miller and
Crash. But I'm hoping Criterion will be looking at obscure overlooked titles too, ones like Michael Tolkin's
The New Age, whose only video release in this century has been a brief blip on Netflix streaming.

Amen to that. Maybe Sidney Lumet's
Prince of the City (which he apparently recorded a commentary for) and completely unreleased titles like Bill Gunn's
STOP (never give up hope, dammit!).

We have an entire thread about the Criterion book

I don't see exactly why only one would be in HD.

I believe it is in jest due to the Tati Box-set transfers

I made a quick list of WB titles that Criterion would probably be interested in considering, mostly titles that are only on DVD or have never been on DVD. I left out a few like Gun Crazy that seem likely to become Archive upgrades/releases and Ball of Fire that don't feel like HD priorities (for anyone but us). And I don't really know much about the silent or pre-code holdings they might be pursuing. I'd definitely be curious to hear from others what you think I'm missing.
After Hours
The Bad & The Beautiful
Bad Day at Black Rock
Barfly
Before Sunset/Before Sunrise
Blow-Up
Bringing Up Baby
Crash
Dreams
The Left Handed Gun
The Magnificent Ambersons
McCabe & Mrs. Miller
The Naked Spur
The New World (with all 3 or 4 cuts)
The New Age
Prince of the City
Stop
Who's That Knocking At My Door?
The Wrong Man
Zabriske Point
Top Hat
Swing Time
Ride the High Country
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid
The Ballad of Cable Hogue

I think a few people mentioned that Freaks could very well be the pre-code title.

Kurosawa's Dreams
Empire of the Sun is probably out of the question, but I'd kill to see Spielberg's longer original cut

The Devils
The Fountain
The Rapture
Scarecrow
SubUrbia

Kurosawa's Dreams was already high on my initial list a page back. I honestly had forgotten that The Rapture (which I love about as much as The New Age) was also a New Line (technically Fine Line) property. Night Moves and Freaks seem right on. Scarecrow is another very good call. SubUrbia has been talked about as possibly forthcoming for years now. But isn't The Devils beset by all sorts of rights and elements issues -- even the BFI version is DVD only?

Scarecrow had a restoration and theatrical run a few months ago as well, so hopefully somebody has BD coming.
Is this company really worried about a 1970s film with Pacino and Hackman being hard to sell if done right? Jeez.

What about all of those New Line John Waters' titles? Only Hairspray has been upgraded to Blu. Are the rest of them even in print on DVD?
