I think one of them is Chang from Community.

And one is Jane from Breaking Bad, which gives credit to my theory that
Season 5 of BB will resurrect every character who has died.

In defense of the cover artist, all of those people genuinely do appear as though they require instruction on how to make love to a woman.

And I think the blonde girl is what is left of porn star Jenna Jameson.

Quite.
I could be mistaken, but it looks to me like the covers are an attempt to appeal to fans of symphonic metal, as if to say "Nightwish didn't invent symphonic-ness in music; it actually originated with these guys! Sure they're old timey, but they still ROCK! Check em out if you're MAN enough!"
Probably. But they lack the wit of my favorite such covers, the "Westminster Gold" series from the 70s, which produced such gems as:
It was all a weird assortment of
sex,
odd visual puns,
Volkswagens, and
all three.
Also on offer: plenty of
glouriously hideous taste and
lots that was just friggin' weird.
Best of all is their visual explanation of
Götterdämmerung:
Some kind soul has put the
entire lineup online.

Julian Bream Plays Bach made me do a spittake. The 70's were truly the height of Western culture.

I'm used to the order of the names of the stars not matching where they're pictured on the cover when it's a
single group picture, but this seems a little ridiculous:
I actually looked up the description to see if it was about drag queens/kings.

Let's hope this isn't yet another Universal title marred by excessive image wiping

I like it actually. Far better than the film deserves.

It's meant to echo the carnival that plays an important role early in the film.

That cover's awesome. And I agree with knives: it's way better than the film deserves.

I agree. If that had been a Criterion title, there would be a number of months in which it would be the standout cover!

Looks terrible to have the scrollwork filter over everything rather than just the background. All caps for "BEFORE" seems arbitrary and wrong.

How the hell do you cock up a Spider-Man cover?
Like that, it seems.

Twilight Zone would beg to differ. Same thing with MASH and many other great long running shows.

The Twilight Zone is, by it's self contained episode nature, a different kettle of fish entirely no?
Not to state the bleedin' obvious, but it always comes down to the nature of the show and whether the story/characters are played out. The problem is when a show retains a setting and either, has characters who change beyond recognition or are replaced completely to try and keep it fresh (or through key personnel leaving), a la the American Office.
The UK Office ended when it felt like the story had been told, that ship sailed with the US version when Jim and Pam got together, and i'd agree that this has a lot to do with how Network TV works in the US. It feels more like luck than judgement when a long running show retains its quality.
