Is random speculation in a thread dedicated to random speculation really so objectionable?

It's a continuum of redundancy, sure, but speculating on the order in which things we already know are going to be released are actually going to be released seems like the bottom-feeder of random speculation to me.

Still, something like this always comes around at this time of the month (Pre-Cover-Art-Bitching Tension?) and I suppose it's better than squabbling about aspect ratios or misison statements.

I'm in favor of a separate thread dedicated to the "I predict this month's releases will include Cocktail Molotov" posts. These seem inevitable, so we may as well have a place for them. The Random Speculation thread is an okay place for them, but it makes the tread even messier to navigate through for users like myself who tend to use it to check on the latest Criterion news.

My two cents....leave it all here.

The thread is what it is and at this point its not that difficult to learn that the most current news gets posted in this thread before the truly meritorious news finds a dedicated thread.

Speculation will always find its way into the forum, so I think it's best if this remains the dedicated place for it. Without this specific thread I suspect it'll just diffuse into countless other threads.

Most of the threads in this section has been nothing but speculation. We are in need of some good news. Seriously.

A separate thread for "So is what I think is coming this month...." seems pointless unless the mods feel like breaking off this thread, starting a new one and then deleting it in the three days each month we wait for Criterion to update their website. One place for random guessing seems good enough.

So for my random speculation, given that Criterion seems to be taking advantage of the Focus catalog, Von Trier's now OOP The Idiots seems a likely candidate.

Wasn't there some speculation, based on some plausible evidence, months back that The Idiots would be released by Criterion?

What I found on Von Trier's The Idiots is here.

Let's complain that neither the Kobayashi nor the Godard is on BluRay!

And no Eclipse again?

Interesting choice for Blu. I thought that thing was shot on a Super 8 camera glued to an Etch-a-Sketch. Oh wait, that's just how it looked on the existing DVD... \:D/

So what's 482?

Yeah, it's gotta be.

The June DD sale will take all your money and then July Criterions will take what you make in the interim.

And the funny thing is, I'm looking forward to it.

eh, a pretty weak month for me, I'll netflix the latter two human condition to see if they're any better than the interminable first movie, and I'll netflix the two blurays. I might eventually try the godard. But overall pretty meh especially with no Eclipse yet again (so far, the Korda announcement came almost a day later, iirc).

And damn why are they releasing so much of the same Godard/Polanski crap they always release? Why won't they ever surprise us? ;) Why don't they release some directors they never get around to, like more Ozu or Kurosawa?

The Optimum R2 UK MADE IN USA already has a Colin MacCabe intro & a Karina interview, so wonder if there is enough on the CC edition to make a double dip worthwhile...

To quote Keith Hernandez, "who is this chucker". It's going to be tough to top this July.

If 2 or 3 things or Vivre sa Vie is 482 that would be tight. Pretty sure I will pick up Repulsion and Made in USA, but Human Condition is not a guarantee, maybe have to wait for XMas because it is pricy.

The Kobayashi would be a (rather expensive) blind buy for me. Who wants to sell me on it? I'm definitely getting REPULSION. I've only seen the aforementioned Etch-A-Sketch transfer.

I'm a little nervous about the unclaimed spine number. We all know how that turned out last month...

Kinda wish they'd thrown in something that I didn't already have in my collection...

nah, there just weren't enough posts deriding this month yet. Criterion forum hates every months releases and always complains, I was disappointed there was not more bitching.

If the missing number is Thief... this will be the first month where I buy everything. This does pose the question of who Criterion has the bigger love-hate relationship with, Godard or Kobayashi?

Finally an end can be put to the Human Condition whining and speculating.

I just finished watching Repulsion in hopes it would be released today. I'm incredibly pumped about this month's releases. Well played, Criterion.
