Is that Shout Factory release beginning to look the least bit more tempting now? At least to those with little patience?

Do not confuse arrival dates with the release dates! Chatterjees, you live in the US, unless you paid for courier service it's impossible to receive the item before someone who lives in Scotland.

No, sorry, misunderstanding alert!. I meant to say that I wonder what the problem is that has caused the release date to slip by more than a month, not why a UK order should arrive in the UK before a similar order arrives in the USA, that's pretty obvious.

The BFI has just formally confirmed that the new release date is 25 August.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but in deciding to finally buy Paul Cronin's Herzog on Herzog, I discovered that he's got an impending, hugely updated version of this book called Werner Herzog - a guide for the perplexed.

I emailed Faber & Faber for clarification on its contents compared to the earlier book and was told the following:

Thanks for that information, I'll pick my copy up this afternoon, skim it, and let you know if there's much difference (I have the earlier version too).

I have the book now and it's a couple of hundred pages longer, much nicer production with the (different and some in colour) photographs printed on art-paper stock and kept together between pages 84 and 85 rather than before when they were printed on the same pages as text and interspersed throughout. As said in the quote from Faber and Faber above, the original interviews have been reworked and expanded, e.g. I compared the parts discussing "Fata Morgana" and found that the revised version is quite different and on a quick skim seems to be more "in depth" than the previous text.

The new material covering his work since the first edition takes up approx. a hundred pages or so and there are, additionally, a Foreword by Harmony Korine, a new introduction "Visionary Vehemence" by Paul Cronin, then after the body of the text, "Ten Poems" by Werner Herzog, "Thinking about Germany" by Werner Herzog, "The Minnesota Declaration" by Werner Herzog (which was in the first edition), "Shooting on the Lam" by Herbert Golder, "Afterword" by Lawrence Krauss and a bibliographic essay, filmography and opera stagings. Altogether it makes a nice reference work for when that blu-ray box set eventually arrives.

Hey, thanks very much for that. It looks to be a pretty nice book. There's something about Herzog's work that just keeps me returning again and again. Even when on the surface a film of his might at times seem 'boring', it's still pretty captivating.
Should be enlightening to finally read through Paul Cronin's interviews. Not to mention absorbing the BFI Blu-Ray set too, a decent amount of which I've not yet seen.

The text is set in a good, readable, point size so I wouldn't worry about that. This edition, being hardback, has a page size that is quite a bit larger than the 2002 paperback. New edition is 24 x 15.4 x 4.9 cm as opposed to the 2002 paperback's 21.5 x 13.4 x 2.5 cm (sizes according to Amazon UK).

I believe that 1988 Guardian Lecture (which followed a preview screening of Cobra Verde) is audio-only? I was in the audience for that at the National Film Theatre.

Really does look fantastic, the shot of the band marching, especially, is breathtaking.

Looking forward to seeing how Stroszek looks (and sounds; love Chet Atkins score) as it is a favourite and to see how utterly bleak Plainfield, Wisconsin looks in HD. Kaspar' too, if this is anything to go by must also look gorgeous. It looks as if the delay was more than justified.

I am most looking forward to seeing Heart of Glass in HD. Outside of Nosferatu and Aguirre, that is.

I think overall the Woyzeck master looks to be a tad underwhelming, but the BFI encoding is much better than the Shout. Note the black crush:
