Almost finally bought the BFI version recently and glad I haven't. This is the only one of his films missing from my collection/I haven't seen and I'm dying to.

I watched it on Hulu a couple weeks ago during a DreyerFest weekend and found it quite engaging and a lot of fun. Very much looking forward to a disc.

Now that A Brief History in Time has been announced, I'm wondering if other Morris documentaries are in the works. I saw a used DVD of Fog of War on sale today and was so tempted to get it but hesitated in anticipation of a CC release. It seems plausible since they've released other Sony Pictures Classics titles.

You can expect a box set of his first three films to come out from Criterion sometime this next year.

What would people guess? This is not a high profile title. Solo release? Box? Early Dreyer Eclipse?

I'd be upset if one of the greatest silent films was stuffed into some Early Dreyer Eclipse set.

Hallelujah! This unquestionably deserves a stand-alone release.

It doesn't really fit with any of his other films, and comes at 1925, right before Joan, so it's not really "early" per se, either.

They could stick Two People, Dreyer's film maudit and another kammerspiel, on it. Not a good film, but one that's rarely seen; Dreyer himself scarcely acknowledged having made it. David Bordwell's monograph very nearly passes it over in polite silence, despite devoting an entire chapter to each of Dreyer's other sound films (IIRC he writes something like, "It is indeed an embarrassment"). But it's part of history, and anyone who might be embarrassed by it is long dead.

I'd never heard of the film before and am kind of stunned by that fact. Have you seen it, and is it really all that bad?

I'm kind of hoping they're able to obtain some of Dreyer's short films, though I realize the chances of that are slim.

There are Euro Blu-rays of Die Gezeichneten and Glomdalsbruden, so hopefully Criterion is planning something bigger than just a single spine release.

I wouldn't be surprised then if whatever is coming up gets combined with upgrading The Passion of Joan of Arc as well.

Who else would like to see Criterion tackle this one?

Sam Smith created a poster for Cristian Mungiu's Beyond the Hills, an IFC/Sundance Selects release (just for the hell of it, apparently).

Sam Smith's just-for-the-hell-of-it poster re-imaginings for films from a variety of studios are a regular feature at The Dissolve, but I do imagine Criterion will release Beyond the Hills, and that would make an excellent cover.

Well, that solves the angel mystery.

Il Sorpasso, too, for those concerned about the death of Italian cinema

Shame they didn't get Tyberg to do a whole commentary for Master of the House while he was there, he's one of my favorite commenters. Hopefully it's at least a lengthy interview.
