I didn't want to cut [shots of] the two men naked.

As I understand it, the website that originally reported it OOP got the code confused with another title that really is going OOP, although some have suggested more nefarious reasons (such as falsely claiming OOP status to take advantage of a spike in prices on the secondary market).jon wrote:are they planning on rereleasing it with cuts?

A crazy bargain. Haven't Paramount been doing blow-outs lately, ie. reducing the price of their catalogue titles en masse?Dadapass wrote:Does anyone know what this might be?

Re: The Conformist and 1900
I still remember a certain notorious MoC-related thread when someone cited the $10 RRP of The Conformist as justification for his claim that MoC, Criterion etc. were ripping people off - so heaven knows what message this is sending out!

Both Amazon and DVDPacific have this cheap forthcoming release listed alongside the former 2-disc 'Special Collector's Edition' at the old price, so this might be something different (shorter US cut?).Person wrote:A crazy bargain. That's quite surprising. Paramount are making some weird decisions over the past year.Le Samouraï wrote:The Conformist is OOP according to DVDPacific.

Re: The Conformist and 1900
I recently e-mailed Paramount regarding The Conformist:
I am e-mailing you to inquirer about the current status of The
Conformist by Bernardo Bertolucci DVD. According to several retailers
this DVD has gone out of print. I wanted to confirm whether these
sources were correct, or whether this DVD is still in print. If this
DVD has gone out of print, will Paramount be releasing it in an
updated/restored version, or is it that Paramount has simply lost the
rights to this film.
Paramount was nice enough to e-mail me back:
This title has been put on Moratorium. I do not know if or when it will
once again be available.
Customer Service
I thought this was interesting, and really doesn't clear up whether this title is out of print or just delayed for some reason. On a good note, if it is out of print, I pray that Criterion picks it up, even though the Paramount disc was quite impressive.

Re: The Conformist and 1900
They (Conformist and 1900) were discontinued in the fall.
Paramount also discontinued a bunch of other goodies including Harold and Maude, Rosemary's Baby, Don't Look Now, Hud, Atlantic City, Pretty Baby, Serpico, Ragtime, American Gigolo, Marathon Man, Miracle of Morgan's Creek. Amazon has some still in stock, others are starting to get expensive on the secondary market.
Hopefully Criterion swoops in and grabs all the good titles.

Or, maybe StudioCanal picked them up and gave them to Lionsgate, just to spite Criterion...
