It looks like there's going to be a reissue of Sansho the Bailiff on April 14. Is it likely it will be without the book?

Maybe along with moving to a Scanavo case? Although it looks like just the DVD is being reissued?

I like the Sullivan cover and love that they`re finally going to bring The River to blu. Very excited to watch it on blu!

Also M seems to have a DVD only reissue on the same day.

Could someone please remind me of the third title that was reissued in a Scanavo Blu on November 4th along with THE LEOPARD and FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I don't know if it was the third (the back said "Second printing 2015"), but when I was at Costco, I noticed they were selling Scanavo-case versions of Tess.

Cool. I don't believe that's the one I was thinking of but good to know TESS got similar treatment all the same. Thank you.

Those all look excellent (although Day in the Country is a bit spartan inside).

I keep hearing of everybody's hatred of the leaflets (does everybody hate folding or something? Remind them of the panicky moments of a car ride where you are lost and simultaneously need to figure out how to fold the gigantic road map? Some even threaten to stop buying Criterion titles because of them, now that's quite the repressed trauma), but I think I prefer the leaflets if it leads to gorgeous posters like My Winnipeg, Time Bandits, Satyricon, Don't Look Now, etc. Although it does leave a problem: if you want to hang them up, I suppose you'll need a clear backing, so you can still read the essays . Sure, they are a bit impractical and it isn't as easy to read/hold as a booklet, but I like the design possibilities the leaflets open (and booklets were never Criterion's trademark / strongest aspect -that was always MoC). I was a bit disappointed when Arrow stopped with their included posters (their Zombie Flesh Eaters poster being a highlight), so I welcome Criterion's venture into this territory.

On Tuesday I plan on picking up A Day in the Country; does it feature a booklet or leaflet? I was surprised to see this wasn't released in cardboard slipcase.

Criterion stopped doing cardboard slipcase as much as possible since the failure of Dual format.
As for A Day In The Country, it looks as it's a leaflet.

I am already won over by the new leaflet inserts. To me it's more of a lateral move than a backwards one, if not in content then at least in design. I see this as inventive way to be creative in the ways booklets can't (thinking of Eating Rauol specifically).

Even as they are, they're above and beyond what gets included in mainstream DVD/Blu releases (which is usually a slip of instructions on how to use Ultraviolet... or oftentimes nothing at all).

I kind of like the booklets, especially now that they're doing a nice big piece of art on the reverse side.

Nothing like having to spread something out like a treasure map to read the essay printed on it - artwork or no artwork, it's a remarkable miscalculation.

Also, sometimes booklets can fit, like, more than one essay.

Absolutely.
The good thing about a booklet is being able to access these information easily : you don't need Internet or a DVD/BD player. For instance, I liked to take them at work so I could read them during lunch breaks.

Now, you also need plenty of space around you to read them, with also plenty of risks of tearing them.

Even the linear-fold out leaflets aren't very practical. They're like 2 meters long !

At least those you can often fold in such a way to cut the length in half while reading them.

When I'm eating with 8 colleagues on a table made for 6 persons, I could read the booklets, but I can't read the foldout posters.
I also used to take a bunch of booklets I still had to read when I was travelling by train or by plane. Same thing : I can read regular booklets, but I can't read the foldout ones.
