Awesome, that was one of the long game expectations I was really looking forward to.

Well I guess that answers that. Got the internet all worked up about Thief for no reason -- though it is coming eventually.

Much as I love Thief, I'd say there's a greater need for the Frampton release. No complaints here.

...and Criterion's facebook page had them all in a flurry over Koyaanisqatsi.

Has there ever been a clear indication that Frampton is certainly bound for Eclipse? The only information I can dig up is that a "Frampton set" was on the horizon. I suppose Adam's post would give less credence to that notion, but if after all this wait - to only receive Hapax... Although - we now should expect Winter Solstice as well.

I would imagine that something similar to the Brakhage set would be ideal/expected. At the very least Criterion could include the full Screening Room interview.

It's a known MGM acquisition, or at least it is now that the cat's out of the bag

Has there been any word on this from Criterion? And the still they put on their Facebook doesn't match any of the pictures on that site kmmbig linked.

The name of the file on Twitter is Solstice.jpg and it was posted on the day of winter solstice.

Given the scale of the undertaking re. Frampton (all-new transfers of challenging material etc.) and the importance of institutional sales and contextualization, I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell that it will be an Eclipse set. I presume whoever started that rumour simply wasn't interested in the films and assumed nobody else would be either (since the internet seems to work by a process of exploded solipsism).

I have to admit I also presumed Frampton was bound for Eclipse because, well, pessimism. And Criterion's track record is that the more context a set requires, the less likely it is to receive contextualisation. See: most Eclipse releases.

Not to mention that bare-bones Brakhage set! AmIright?!

I'm aware; it's my ideal outcome. But allow people some pessimism (it's not quite logic but it'll do).

Criterion just posted The Dziga Vertov Group's Schick after-shave Commercial. Please let that be a hint for the next Eclipse set (will be cool to have that right after the Gorin).

They posted a pic of Wim Wenders in the Magical Criterion Closet with a caption that said "coming soon."

So your truck transport theory wasn't too far off. This should make for an interesting closet video.

To have Wenders's hair when I'm his age...sigh

So, it's a good guess that instead of a partial cover to hit at the titles to be announced on the 15th we get this. Also, did anyone else think that was Cronenberg for a moment, I haven't really seen recent Wenders pictures.

This month's announcements? No. If Wenders is there supervising transfers right now, I'd expect the films to be released this summer. I don't really see the Cronenberg resemblance.

can you guarantee that picture was taken recently? Now, is about when they start doing the "hints". The Cronenberg thing is the hair and glasses I think.

They said they are just now finished with editing the video, which pretty much means to me it was recent. I am going with Jeff and say it will be a couple of months before we see the films announced.

Where's the video? I've seen a few but I can't find this one.
