Eyes Without a Face on Blu-ray would be nice.

I thought this wasn't a possibility.
Criterion Cast mentioned it at the end of June, so I assumed they know something we don't...

It was also an HVe release. If they were to revisit another HVe title I think this would be the one but it still seems unlikely.

I'd kill for a Blu of Cure. The HVE DVD was fairly good but a Blu in the mainline would be all kinds of awesome. Though I'd be surprised if it were to happen AND in a month that's widely tipped to see Kuroneko and Island of Lost Souls released (not sure I can see that happening in spite of it being Halloween month; personally I'd say Island only for Oct and Kuroneko for Nov instead).

Instead of the Wild Strawberries upgrade, I'd put my bets on Rashomon - one of their earlier titles, and the Japanese version's been out for quite a while. And I still think that for their first Hitch in HD, they'll get to 39 Steps ahead of Lady Vanishes.

Or we know something they don't. It's been available on this disc from Image since last fall.

Either an Eclipse with two or more versions of Yostuya Kaidan (at least both the Kinoshita and Nakagawa verions), or a set of sixties movies (Goke the Bodysnatcher - Sato, The Living Skeleton - Matsuno, The X from Outer Space - Nihonmatsu, The War of the Insects - Nihonmatsu)
We've never had back to back Japanese sets, so I think this is unlikely.

Whoa! Look at those poppin' special features! Easy there, Image: Don't spoil us! \:D/

Exactly! I am aware of that disc (have even watched that blu myself). It was also mentioned their post too. That is what makes me think there may be something to it, since it would be foolish to predict it this soon after the Image blu without a damn good reason... Just shooting the moon...

Is there any chance they`ll be releasing Jane Campion`s "An Angel at my table" on blu any time soon?

Well, if the Image goes OOP suddenly... [-o<

As far as extra features go, it was on sale at Amazon just before Christmas last year for $5.99. That's what I paid so it would be unseemly to complain. Besides, it had subs, which the equally bare bones UK Blu does not. But hey, cheap jokes and ginning up your post count with minimal content seem to be your forté. So knock yerself out.

Haha, that seemed uncalled for. Also, aren't cheap jokes kind of the stock in trade around here?

We can't afford both Criterions and good jokes

But with the 50% off sale we can afford jokes that are 50% funny, right?

Okay, I call bullshit. Regardless of what they charged around Christmas, they're charging $15 on Amazon now. You can get The Complete Jean Vigo for just a few dollars more when it's released. If they were charging $6 like you said, that's one thing; but fuck Image for asking for $15. (That was a Christmas deal, anyway.)

Image has nothing to do with Amazon's point of sale price. Most retailers sell sale items at below cost, so the $6 blu was probably a loss leader for Amazon.

As for the Handmade titles, Image has said that Criterion had not approached them about new editions but that they would be open to the idea. These will all probably be rereleased at some point. Just about all the dvds were barebones and had poor transfers compared to their Anchor Bay/Image counterparts. So it's seems odd that your griping about the Image release of these films, when the Criterions were worse at twice the price.

Sorry. I really was trying to be constructive. All I was getting at is that the Image one isn't the definitive DVD, and that a Criterion re-release would be worthwhile and welcome.

Sorry, won't buy constructive - I've read your posts. All I was getting at was that there was a US Blu-ray in print and therefore a Crit was unlikely at this time.

If I wasn't sincere, I wouldn't have apologized for getting aggressive. I do get sarcastic a lot, I'll grant you that; but I've always stayed on topic. Domino Harvey cracks jokes all the time and posts about as frequently as I do. I have no doubt that he's passionate about film, so what's the difference? I don't know why I was arguing, anyway; since Withnail And I is unlikely this month. I thought you were saying that a Criterion wasn't necessary, since the Image release was sufficient. (I guess it is, despite the lack of bonus features.) That's why I wrote that admittedly "dickish" remark. It really was a misunderstanding.

October 2011 Predictions:

Bitter Rice new
Kuroneko new
The Four Feathers new
Band of Outsiders upgrade
Kwaidan upgrade
The Bicycle Thieves upgrade

Kuroneko and Island of Lost Souls definitely, assuming the cover teaser Criterion posted isn't a replacement for Sam Smith's pretty-swell Janus poster (for Kuroneko). Which, we've seen worse decisions from the art dept as of late...

Edit: Many on the FB page are saying Wild Strawberries or another Bergman, for certain. Guess I missed something...

Wild Strawberries is one of the few remaining New Year's clue titles not yet announced.

I hope October is more exciting than ShellOilJuniors picks which are all things we know are coming...

My predictions, (admittedly, no real surprises here either):

Wild Strawberries upgrade
Island of Lost Souls
Y Tu Mama Tambien
The River upgrade
WCF Boxset

I think an Eyes Without a Face upgrade makes sense to coincide with the US theatrical release of the new Almodóvar.

Other than that, I've got nothing. For the monthly completely random Blu upgrade, I'll pick ... Young Mr. Lincoln.

I think Wild Strawberries is November. We just had Smiles not too long ago.
