I've had them in the mail today and they're fantastic discs. Really really happy with these upgrades even though others will probably consider them small as the two masters are SDR and were released on BD with excellent encodes in the US but I definitely noticed the increase in detail.

Damnation (Curzon) - caps
Sátántangó (Curzon Film) - caps

David M revealed that the upcoming Visions 4K of Hunt for the Wilderpeople will have Dolby Vision. While he didn’t specifically mention that he encoded it, it’s probably safe to say that he did.

Vampire's Kiss (Radiance / Transmission) - caps

The Hot Spot (Radiance) - caps (4k coming soon)
United 93 (Universal) - comparison
New York, New York (MVD) - caps. It also has the encoding error with the dropped frames here and there. MVD are apparently aware of it, so we'll see. The master itself is outstanding.

Johnny Handsome (Studiocanal) - caps
Popeye (Paramount) - comparison

The Digital Bits posted that THERE WILL BE BLOOD will be coming next year. He didn’t say from whom but I suspect it will be from Paramount

Last Tango in Paris (88 Films)

No screenshots yet but compared favorably to the VS for grading (of course) and FIM encode

Sorry to have to disappoint you but Imprint's Downfall encode is awful.

Prince of Darkness (Eagle Pictures) (Italian import) has audio issues. Clicking sound permeates the English audio track.

The VS version was originally placed in the Red category.
How significant is the difference between that and the 88 Films version??
Another question: VS had subtitles for only dialogue spoken in a non-English language. As far as I know, it did not have HDH subtitles. Does the 88 Films version have subtitles for all dialogue?

I remember reading that the VS disc wasn’t done by FiM. 88 got David M to do the encode, so you’re getting a small uptick in detail and likely better highlights - the usual pixel-peeper advantages. 88’s specs list optional SDH subs, which I interpret as being for the entire feature. Extras are also different!

If a comparison ever gets done with screenshots, I'll link to them but I saw members on the other forum comparing the grading favorably to the VS, presumably because it avoids the magenta push.

28 Days Later (Sony) caps

Recovers quite a bit of highlight detail, looks less harsh and clipped in the video footage than the old BD. Pleasant surprise actually and it'll be nice for the fans that the film is available again at all for non-scalper prices.

Can't believe how "good" this looks now that the scanner noise and the sharpening / edge enhancement is gone. It also looks like the HDR isn't as garish as Sony's usual grades. Ironically, the colors look slightly more "film-like" as well. Looking forward to caps of the 35mm segment, which is surely stunning now and finally brings across what Boyle intended at that point in the film. This is a must buy for me now.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople (Visions)

88's Pink Panther gets great feedback for the mono track. No caps yet.

Early feedback for Celluloid Dreams' UHD of The Black Belly of the Tarantula is very good.

Watched the 4K last night and it looks phenomenal and very much like a crispy new scan. Was particularly impressed by the final scene in Sutton's shack, the low light and thunderstorms and glimpses at the rain through the window are all incredibly evocative. One of the best looking discs I've seen this year.

Wellllp, too late. This is in the mail to me. And the linked images are broken links. But thanks for letting me know regardless. Seems like a few people are pleased with it so far, too. so I'll just continue to wait & see.

Looks like 12 ANGRY MEN was low-passed, hope this is just a one-off and not a sign for the future given how significantly NexSpec have upped their game this year. This one is MEL too so it's not like it wasn't encoded recently.

He was confirmed to have done their release of SLITHER it so wouldn't be the first one he's done for them.

Links are dead on my end too. I wonder what happened there but I’ve seen the caps in time and for a second thought they were from the Constantin disc, so keep your expectations in check. Hope you feel differently but I’ll keep waiting and hoping for a Shout upgrade.

Totally agree on Hot Spot. I’ve watched it too and loved the presentation just as much. The new grading made me appreciate the cinematography more and the sultry atmosphere comes across much better now. It actually looks like the sun is shining now instead of the pink overcast in much of the old master. Sound was impeccable too. Already looking forward to Miami Blues now!
