Watching the opening again, I guess the cover is meant to be the colour of marigolds - maybe it'll look a bit more vibrant in the flesh.

Maybe they could also put blinking lights on the spine, ala Pink Floyds Pulse album. That way, when you turn your lights out at night you can be reminded that Monsoon Wedding is sitting snugly on your shelf at 489.

Another one of those one-off (i e with no identifiable/recurring character) Chuck Jones MGM 'toons from the same era that I loved:

The Bear That Wasn't. The styles are very different, yet still retain that lilting, angular oddness of Jones at this phase in his career. These usedta come on the Tom & Jerry show on channel 11 at 3:30 when I'd come home from elementary school. And they'd have 3 toons in the 1/2 hour: 2 T&J toons, and one one-off, either from my hero Tex Avery, or one of these Jones one-offs.

The Jones one-offs are some of my favorites too. Bear was, of course, based on the great Frank Tashlin book. I also love Jones' From A to Z-Z-Z-Z.

A good one! Never saw that one, so thanx... I loved the way he used his feet when drifting thru the air in the beginning, and the way he was thumbing his nose when boxing in the end.

From A to Z-Z-Z-Z- wasn't a one-shot though, it got a "sequel" with Boyhood Daze. But Jones sure made some unique toons. The last Looney Tunes Golden Collection have a disc full of these.

First Eclipse set that comes with an insert? is it anything really different than the liner notes from the other discs?

Nah. Louis Malle Documentaries had an insert for Phantom India and Rossellini History Films had one for The Age of the Medici.

I don't have Nikkatsu Noir but I'd bet the insert is there to include some additional background info on Nikkatsu studios in addition to the liner notes for the film.

There's some info on Nikkatsu but the notes (as a whole) cover their respective films, plus the careers of the directors, or stars in the films, if briefly. The insert is there just because the notes are slightly longer and act as intro of sorts to the set.

Ok thanks. Just thought that was the first cause none of the Eclipse sets that I own have any inserts (Sam Fuller set, Silent Ozu, Late Ozu, Prolitariat Trilogy and the Mizoguchi set)
