Just received a batch of recent Criterion releases purchased in the latest Flash Sale and find myself missing those booklets more than ever. I really can't stand these half-assed "leaflets"

Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on Vol.
So, what with my recent confusion with the Vampyr blu-ray upgrade and the book being dropped on the DVD, but apparently coming to the Blu edition - I thought I'd make a list of all of the Criterion books / very large booklets - since those seem to be most volatile special feature with upgrades / disappearing on reprints lately. Once I have a definitive list, I thought I'd post it to the Criterion FAQ section and keep it updated from there on.
So I welcome all corrections / additions that I might have missed! I'll put descriptors after each title to let you know what is going on (if it just says "DVD" - that means there is no Bluray yet, and the DVD with book is currently still in print).
Burden of Dreams (DVD)
Furies (DVD)
Man Who Fell to Earth (Dvd only, not bluray - all editions OOP)
Mr Arkadin (DVD)
Picnic at Hanging Rock (Dual Format only)
Red River (Dual Format only)
Short Cuts (DVD -book = OOP)
Six Moral Tales (DVD)
Two Lane Blacktop (DVD only)
Vampyr (DVD -OOP, Possible forthcoming Blu still has it included)
Larger booklets:
Amarcord (DVD + Blu)
Babette's Feast (DVD + Blu)
Battle of Algiers (DVD + Blu)
Bicycle Thieves (DVD)
Breathless (DVD + Blu + Dual format)
Dazed and Confused (DVD + Blu)
Double Life of Veronique (DVD, Blu missing booklet content)
Eraserhead (DVD + Blu)
Hard Day's Night (Dual format)
On the Waterfront (DVD + Blu)
Patriotism (DVD)
Persona (Dual format)
Repo Man (DVD + Blu)
Salo (DVD + Blu)
Sansho The Baliff (DVD-book=OOP, Bluray - book still available)
Seven Samurai (DVD + Blu)
Slacker (DVD + Blu)
Sweet Smell of Success (DVD + Blu)
Ugetsu (DVD)
Y tu Mama Tambien (Dual format)
----------------------
I was going to skip the "Larger booklet" section - but the Sansho example seems to necessitate that section. I'd define a larger booklet as one that doesn't fit in a normal plastic case (thus they will be a digipack). I also think I'll avoid listing boxsets - in the latter section, since we don't have any precedent thus far for large multi-disc boxsets having booklet content dropped. This is terribly subjective in the latter section - but you can usually eye what appears to be a substantial book size. I've checked everything that I own, and I know I'm missing plenty of others (Repo Man? Slacker?). I've checked all the Dual Formats, so no need there. Not every digipack has a very substantial booklet (see Godzilla, Spirits of the Beehive, etc). Some help will be appreciated!

Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on Vol.
Repo Man and Slacker both have larger booklets. (at least I think the Slacker Blu-ray retains the larger booklet)
The Burden of Dreams DVD has "an 80-page book of excerpts from Blank’s and Gosling’s production journals"
I know the DVD of Double Life of Veronique has been reissued in plastic a case and has had the booklet reduced and I think the DVD of Battle of Algiers has suffered the same fate.

Beautiful cover for A Master Builder. Shame most of us will only see it hidden in the box

That Valerie cover is the worst cover in the history of the Criterion Collection. Period. Dear God they can't be serious. It's like they took our criticisms over Cries and Whispers and went, "Oh yeah? We'll show you a bad cover!"

Well, she has her first period in the film and flowers are often metaphors for vulvas... So I guess it works on that level.

I was going to say, it's probably symbolic. I've never seen the movie before and I can assume that somebody loses their virginity.bamwc2 wrote:Well, she has her first period in the film and flowers are often metaphors for vulvas...domino harvey wrote:That Valerie cover is the worst cover in the history of the Criterion Collection. What's so bad about the Valerie cover?
The Fisher King is the only actively bad cover this month. The Bridge is kinda bland though.

It's a colorful, phantasmagorical film and they're releasing it with a stark black cover featuring a daisy dripping with period bloodcriterion10 wrote:What's so bad about the Valerie cover?
