I remember reading that the VS disc wasn’t done by FiM. 88 got David M to do the encode, so you’re getting a small uptick in detail and likely better highlights - the usual pixel-peeper advantages. 88’s specs list optional SDH subs, which I interpret as being for the entire feature. Extras are also different!
VinSyn 4K of LAST TANGO was encoded by Vital Passenger.

Man Who Shot Liberty Valance US release is supposed to be bad. Is there a decent import version?

Sadly not one of the Paramount titles that had a superior encode done by Plaion in Italy, to my knowledge.

Last Tango in Paris (88 Films)
No screenshots yet but compared favorably to the VS for grading (of course) and FIM encode
The VS version was originally placed in the Red category.
How significant is the difference between that and the 88 Films version??
Another question: VS had subtitles for only dialogue spoken in a non-English language. As far as I know, it did not have HDH subtitles. Does the 88 Films version have subtitles for all dialogue?
The Vinegar Syndrome edition features two subtitle tracks: SDH for all dialogue, and another solely for non-English dialogue.

I really hope ARP contributes something, he’s made cryptic statements alluding to its genius and I’ve always wanted him to publicly expand on his ideas

UTSL 100% feels like a film he'd be into, in a good way obviously.

Posted this already in the other forum, but further evidence Warner Archive have and will continue to mop the floor with their parent's home entertainment division!
Also, this confirms that AUNTIE MAME 4K not including a remastered BD is in fact a mere production error. David M even confirmed he did produce a BD encode for that one in addition to the UHD encode, so not sure what happened that an older encode was sent to the plants for one of the included discs, or the plants ended up repressing an older disc by accident themselves.

the Millennium Actress 4k is in the blue tier, has anyone here actually seen that disc and have any first hand comments?

I have it and it looks and sounds fantastic. Not sure why it is not in the red tier.

I assume it's in the blue tier because it's SDR and the Shout blu is from the same 4k master, which apparently has some DNR like a lot of Japanese anime remasters.
Thanks though, will spring for the 4k.

SDR only would not be a reason not to have it in the red. I know where I'm going! is SDR and looks at least as good as films in Dolby Vision and HDR. I think it was quite a while since we added Millennium Actress to the list and my guess its "only" in the blue tier because the gap between the UHD and Blu-ray isn't huge.

Yes that's what I meant, sorry if I wasnt clear by leading with the SDR point.

The Sirat 4K is great! It has Dolby Vision and Atmos and the extras that are on the Neon BD. But be warned in case you don’t know already, the film received a DNR pass which can be
very noticeable from time to time. The 4K encode fortunately is very good and doesn’t exacerbate the digital sheen more than already present. Like
The Smashing Machine, this is another recent film that was shot on 16mm and then de-grained by the filmmakers. It’s not as if someone’s forcing them to shoot on film, let alone a grainier format if they don’t want the textures that come with it. Anyway, the 4K is recommended over a BD release as the finer grain of the former camouflages the DNR a little better.
Are all the Sirat 4Ks good quality? The Madman version is cheap on Amazon right now with a coupon, whereas the Altitude one up on Orbit et al is twice as expensive
Edit: It looks like the UK release has Atmos and the Australian one doesn't.. not sure how much that matters

Sorry, I’ve no idea about the Australian release. I personally don’t have anything from Madman and I haven’t seen any reports on the other forum. Besides the missing Atmos, the Australian release is also barebones whereas the UK 4K has the same extras as the Neon disc. I really liked the Atmos but don’t have the system to actually tell if it’s got any object movement or noticeably more fidelity than the 5.1.
Assuming their authoring house isn’t the worst, you’re probably fine with the Madman as the noise reduction in the master makes it easier to encode. Can’t make any promises though.

How do people feel about the VS Body Snatchers 4K?

Good! It looks like one of their stronger discs in
caps. There was some talk on the other forum about the color timing as dwk posted a report from someone who saw a 35mm print of the film and mentioned that it had a noticeable orange cast. What’s interesting is that the DVD
approximated that look, which, as we know, is rare. I think this gives credence to the print and probably implies that the saturation was intentional. The WAC BD dialed that back completely, which doesn’t come as a surprise when looking at their Performance or Night Moves BDs. From what I can see, VS landed closer to the DVD in a few shots but not all the time. So they’ve probably not delivered the most accurate presentation of the film but the scan, master and encode seem to have turned out well.

The color timing of Body Snatchers Blu-ray was pointed out here in the Abel Ferrara thread, so credit goes to that post.

I wish they would've given Body Snatchers a more filmic color grade but unfortunately VinSyn almost never does that.

Anyone here in Chicago should know the Music Box is playing a print of Body Snatchers for their October horror series, a must-see for what even on the WAC Blu-Ray was one of the most stunningly-shot movies I've ever seen.
