Also won't happen: Die Gezeichneten and Glomdalsbruden. But a man can dream, can't he?

It's going to be The Rock and Armageddon. Hey, Criterion did it.

I'm hoping it's either Anatahan and Docks of New York
or Death by Hanging and Diary of a Shinjuku Thief...

We're in acquisitions mode at the moment, having almost cleared the decks. Most of what everyone's suggesting is right up our street and we're trying our best!
We've got to look at a master next week, and another one around Sept 20th, and if they're both okay, we'll be announcing them around the end of September.

I know Gallo isn't everyone's cup of tea, but Buffalo '66 is screaming for an anamorphic release, let alone Blu, and it'd sell exceedingly well.

I love
Buffalo 66, but the UK DVD is 1.85:1 anamorphic.

I'll second that. But almost anything by Sternberg would be heaven.

Unless the two mystery films by the same director are Blu only, I reckon it's the long-promised Pedro Costa double-bill which Nick & Co have had to delay until early 2011.
edit: d'oh! should read older posts more carefully as those 2 as yet to be revealed titles will be Blu after all!

But would the Pedro Costa films have materials/masters that would merit Blu Ray release? The Criterion release seemed to point otherwise (although I don't have it myself)...

No, David's referring to this one:-

I agree. But sadly the scans that have been done so far in Sweden of the silent classics have all been standard definition, and hardly up to MoC standards. Several films by Sjöström, Stiller and others have been restored by the Swedish film institute, but nobody seems to be willing to pay for a high def scan. I belive Criterion is the only independent company to do scanning themselves, so they are probably more likely to step in, if the Swedes don't.

Sloper,
here (Danish site), it states that "Glomdalsbruden" and "Elsker Hverandre" (both Dreyer) are coming this summer on blu-ray being released from the DFI (Danish Film Institute).

Well, if
this was correct, then the next Costa announced for the UK should be
Ossos, which was 35mm. But I'm positive the one after that (
Where Does Your Hidden Smile Lie?) was DV.
(Edit: Scratch that, the one after was
In Vanda's Room and that's definitely DV.)

Nothing on the dfi or dreyer-sites yet, as far as I can see, but this is great news. I sincerely hope that they will release it on SD, too. BTW: "Elsker Hverandre" is "Die Gezeichneten", and they better release it with the original German titles....

Just in case anyone wonders: The owner of dvdsnak.dk is pretty reliable regarding news from DFI, and he's supposed to have some inside knowledge (like some members here on criterionforum regarding MoC or BFI etc.). So this is really exciting news!

Great news indeed on the Dreyers, mikkelmark; thanks for that. I too hope they get SD releases, however, and maybe releases that I won't have to pay colossal shipping charges for...
(I know, I know, obscure Dreyer silents coming out on blu-ray and all I can do is whine.)

They are due, but they have been confirmed for a while, so I think Nick has some other surprise for us.

We haven't received delivery of the finished materials, but I believe it's finished visually, if not aurally. So our edition is currently not on the schedule, but if we could start work on it early December, the hope is for a 2011 Q2/3 release.
