= Oscar gold.
I actually listened to that and the Frozen song earlier today, and frankly, couldn't tell them apart. (Other than one being about Jesus, obviously.)

oh god. at this point i hope the voters just saw Broughton's name and voted for him out of bias instead of actually listened to the nominees because i can't imagine who would actually pick this nonsense.jindianajonz wrote:Hey guys, maybe we shouldn't judge this thing without hearing it firstlacritfan wrote:Oh geez-us AYNA is sung by an evangelical Christian quadriplegic. Good luck criticizing this nom once the Christian media and Fox news find out. Better to just let this controversy die now before it becomes a bigger story.

Well, that was simplistic sentimental dreck.

As a long-time Bruce Broughton fan I would have been much happier never having heard that.

The best/saddest part of that video is how she begins by praying for God to "mitigate any age, crackiness, or tiredness in her voice" and then comes out with this pleasant but obviously heavily processed singing. That's the sound man done that for you, dear. He ain't God.
I wonder if the same woman will be performing it at the Oscars. It's going to be a terribly long and tedious performance no matter who does it, but having a quadriplegic onstage with a bunch of shadowdancers or whatever the producers come up with to spice it up is going to be incredibly awkward, not to mention the cause of endless guilt when you try to change the channel.

Not if you change the channel for (or fast-forward through) all the "Best Song" performances.Shrew wrote:...not to mention being the cause of endless guilt when you try to change the channel.

Re: Awards Season 2013
Seeing as the Oscars pulled off having Jerry Goldsmith's "Ave Satani" from The Omen sung at the Oscars in 1976 (the song was nominated, the score won), they might be able to pull this off.

On the one hand I'm glad it's looking more and more like 12 Years a Slave won't win Best Picture at the Oscars. On the other hand, this is going to win. Expect the other winners to be the winners on Oscar night, except maybe Amy Adams who wasn't nominated for the SAGlacritfan wrote:Cast in a Motion Picture - AMERICAN HUSTLE

And its the worst film of the 6 nominees I've seen, too. Typical.

Re: Awards Season 2013
I'll hopefully have seen all of the nominees within the week, but 12 Years a Slave is still the weakest for me so far (though I don't actively dislike any of the nominees yet, which would be a nice change of pace if it stays that way). Her would be an amazing and validating win, but that'll never ever happen-- it'll be lucky to walk away with anything

Re: Awards Season 2013
The only three films with a legit shot at Best Picture of the 9 are 12 Years a Slave, Gravity and American Hustle. I'll be ok with either 12 or Gravity winning, but IMO AH would be the weakest BP winner since Crash.
However, I did just look up the SAG prior history and it's only a 50% indicator as only 9/18 years it has matched ensemble Cast with Oscar BP.

I'm pulling for Gravity (ha ha), partly because I realize it's all the Academy can do short of time travel to undo the injustice of snubbing Children Of Men. I'll be as happy if Jonas wins Best Director, than as if it won Best Picture.

If not picture they can at least finally give Best Cinematography to Emmanuel Lubezki, not just for CoM but all of Malick's films that he's shot.flyonthewall2983 wrote:I'm pulling for Gravity (ha ha), partly because I realize it's all the Academy can do short of time travel to undo the injustice of snubbing Children Of Men.

Re: Awards Season 2013
If The Wolf of Wall Street, Her, 12 Years a Slave, or Gravity wins Best Picture, I won't have anything to complain about. All great films in my eyes, and the only nominees to make it on my Top Ten list. I still haven't seen Philomena (I was trying to avoid paying for that one, but it seems as though I may have to now), but of the others I've seen, I only disliked American Hustle, so if that wins, I'll be royally pissed, although Nebraska, Captain Phillips, and Dallas Buyers Club wouldn't exactly make for good winners either.

Cate Blanchett did make the most of her SAG win at least:

What the hell? Tie at PGAs between 12 Years a Slave and Gravity. So... it's a three way race, again

I'll be the lone person rooting for American Hustle of those three though I bet the McQueen does it anyway.

I'm OK with American Hustle winning. I actually really liked it and saw it a 2nd time in theaters. I think it holds up well.

Re: Awards Season 2013
Since I think this was the best year for American film since 2007 I don't really care who wins, it's just nice to see the best picture noms filled up with mostly great films, none of which I'd call particularly bad by any means. Although the absence of Inside Llewyn Davis cuts pretty deep.
