I'm glad They Live By Night will get a release, but my impression is he's starting to be very decently covered: Rebel, In a Lonely Place, Bigger Than Life, Johnny Guitar (with They Live By Night his best films, along with The Lusty Men), King of Kings, and even On Dangerous Ground and Run for Cover. It's too bad Warner Archives didn't release The Lusty Men on blu - that and Bitter Victory would make me happy, and his Jesse James film. Anthony Mann is comparatively a lot more neglected.

Happiness on the way, then: The True Story of Jesse James on blu-ray from Koch Media in February.

I doubt this will be it, but these elements had me think of Goodbye to Language.
Makes sense to me. Another possibility might be Bonjour Tristesse.

Maybe I missed these, despite reading through the comments here and elsewhere, but there's two things I haven't seen anyone mention:

1. The measuring cups beside the window (one of the cups is missing), and
2. The candle on top of the flagpole.

The first I probably missed mention of; the second seems significant given that all the other candles are on the floor.

Not actually measuring cups, but cooking pans. The one missing from the wall hook, the "D" pan, is on the table with some noodles and chopsticks in it - thought to reference Dheepan and/or Tampopo.

But why bother with those wall pans, then, as the same clue is just as easily communicated by *not* having four other pans on the wall, as it would still clearly be a D-Pan otherwise?

Sort of, but it's much clearer to have a context of "A", "B", "C" and "E" pans to emphasize the "D" pan in use instead of just showing a pan with the letter "D" on it.

How so? Having a pan with D on it is already a blunt clue, it doesn't really matter if it's in use or not. I'm guessing the pans aren't there for nothing, but perhaps I'm wrong.

There is no black helicopter in the drawing yet, but check back in a few weeks. Sooner or later, they will come for us.

If the extra pans on the wall have any meaning, then my S/O came up with: Lost in Translation.

Given we have 16 Candles - there must be some sort of new Universal deal - and I can't imagine them passing on the above.

I don't understand why this bothers Domino / others to such an extent.

When its the monthly newsletter clue that's been solved in five minutes, and then we get three pages of amateur comedy hour / alternative theories, then its time before things get out of hand.

We still have several clues yet unaccounted for. Granted, not everything will be the greatest / the correct response, but there's zero harm in letting people chime in every now and then.

If we can have endless petty arguments in the awards thread, why not let the puzzlers on this board have their fun here - rather than immediately shoot them down (I've had several people message me various theories, since some of them thought people were being hostile in this thread).

I was going to make a comment that after watching svankmajors Alice on FilmStruck it seemed obvious that the queen of hearts from last years clue was for that film but didn't bother because of all the hostility honest observations generally engender.

Alice is available on Blu from First Run Features, who currently have U.S. home video rights, so I doubt this is forthcoming. I'll admit that I too was never satisfied that the Queen of Hearts clue was for the Kennedy docs (to paraphrase Swo's post from the previous page, if you assigned 1,000 people to come up with a clue for the Kennedy/Drew documentaries, how many of them would come up with a fairly obscure nickname for Jackie O when she's not the subject of any of the films?). But I've basically accepted that it was a screwed-up clue for the by-that-point-already-announced Manchurian Candidate. The only Alice adaptation I can think of that Criterion might show some interest in and that would certainly be up for grabs studio-wise is the all-star 1933 Paramount version that is currently owned by Universal.

I think the presidential car and the "Vote JFK" sticker were pretty clear indicators of, if not the Kennedy docs, then the film JFK. Not a great clue, but easy to figure out what it referred to in hindsight. The Queen of Hearts of course has nothing to do with this, but putting it in that position brings to mind presidential assassination and having it be a playing card points it squarely in the direction of Manchurian Candidate (even if the suit is technically wrong for that film).

For most of the past two weeks I've been trying to find a way to make there be a clue for Flowers of Shanghai in here, but I can only assume it's wishful thinking on my part. That said, there's enough stray evidence to keep me trying, if not succeeding: the flowers on the S's wedding dress (too bad they're not "hanging high," or something like that), the candles all around for how much of the film was shot in candlelight, the recent Hou Hsiao-hsien phantom page.

Just wanted to ask something:
Have all the clues of previous drawings been released?

It feels like half of my posts on this forum are about this clue at this point, but 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days awaits release. The clue from the 2015 drawing seems pretty definitive and it was teased at the end of that year.

What's the poster next to it? It seems like a possible poster for said film (the two female friends) but is there a chance it's for something else?
