We had to temporarily remove the essays from our website due to a technical problem, but we plan to restore them as soon as we are able. Thanks for your email!
Sincerely,
Tamara
Whew. Sigh. Breath of relief.

3 Months later and still no essays? Damn. Hope to see these come back soon.
Also, I cant seem to find the list of shelves on Criterions site anymore, does anyone have a direct link to that?

The
new website is live. Still digesting everything, but there is streaming video, full movie rentals for $5.00 and other assorted goodies.

I'm really digging the aesthetics and interface. And I love that the $5.00 rental fee can be applied toward purchase after you've decided whether the film is worth buying.

I just tried watching some of FAT GIRL (one of the
free movies they're streaming) full screen on my 24" iMac. Image quality is solid given the format -- about what you'd find on Hulu.

I can't seem to stream these free movies in Canada. I guess they're for US residents only.

They do some random numbering of the artwork archives so we can no longer see the artwork of future releases until they post them - bummer!

RIP Friday afternoons spent refreshing a nonexistent picture URL

That's really sort of saddening.

I must say, though, it's nice to see them get off of ASP.

Didn't they just redesign their website? My first impression is that it's pretty unnavigable, but this is based only on about a minute or two of looking at it. My direct link to the lists of DVDs still works, but sadly there isn't a full page list (maybe there's a link somewhere to see the whole list).

The full page list is just linked to the "Films" section. Clicking there should bring it right up.
Frankly, I love the new design. Their old site, while competent, suffered from some really old conceptions of what people expected out of web design, as well as, like I previously mentioned, ASP programming. I'd like to know what they wrote the new site in. It's probably a PHP-based CMS, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just used flat Rails. Though my hunch is Expression Engine. (Or, to save money, Joomla).

They don't link to us anymore (for which I'm actually kind of thankful). I suppose everyone is just encouraged to join "The Auteurs" now. Now that the .com forum is gone, guess who's going to be signing up in droves.

Why?

Actually, their site was down for a few days, but now it`s up again, it just don`t show link on criterion.com.

So who's going to be posting on The Auteurs?
It might be a nice refuge... a thoughtful forum sans mods around here (there's only one actually) who've
gone MAD WITH POWER!!!

Based on what I've seen of the Auteurs Blog, refugees from the Dot-Com Forum certainly will find a safe haven there

Yeah, so far the Auteurs site is not much further removed from the IMDB boards. The revamp of the blog into the "Current" is a little messy, but I'm sure it'll work itself out. If you notice, they have a section "Film With Online Supplements" that is empty, but I presume is coming very soon. Interesting relaunch for sure.

I joined the Auteurs a while back when I still had a facebook, but when I got rid of that I found it difficult to re-enter their site via a direct link. Good to see a connection from the new CC site, and it is true that Auteurs is mainly imdb for those with more discreet taste, but I've always enjoyed the layout of the site and it will be nice to be able to revisit it.

I tried watching a movie on the PS3 and it did not work. If anyone gets it to please let me know how because it would be nice to watch a film here or there on my tv randomly from the site.
I was able to easily stream a movie from the website using my computer though. I was impressed by the quality and how quickly it started moving considering I have a very low end broadband connection.
