I vaguely remember that cover as the original film poster (yes I'm ashamed to admit I saw this piece of crap....has any Oscar-winning actress been in more bad movies than Gwyneth?)

Mira Sorvino

I don't want to parse such awfulness, but Mira only won Supporting Actress. Gwynnie somehow won Best Actress, so I'd give her the edge.

Halle Berry and Helen Hunt are probably in the running.

I'm too lazy to look over the complete list, but I'm guessing there were some award-winning contract players who starred in their fair share of dross.

hey, the film was, at least, beautifully shot (by Emmanuel Lubezki)
although, with that cover... it looks more like it should be "Great Sexpectations" the terrible porno version (that may be better than the Cuaron version)

and about Gwyneth... didn't she win for a terrible movie?
and she's still no Cuba Gooding Jr.

The original poster was slightly different, but not much better.

I don't understand what shame there is in seeing this film. I don't think it works as a whole, but it contains several scenes which, taken individually, constitute minor masterpieces; and the whole design of the film is unbelievably gorgeous (which in my opinion makes the cover that much worse).

You'll need it when the loser of one of the competitions has to take a sip of the blood and fat mixture from a liposuction.

I need it right now.

Welsh contributions to film culture:

late 50s and 60s: Richard Burton
70s and 80s : Anthony Hopkins
90s: Catherine Zeta-Jones
late 90s: Rhys Ifans and Iaon Gruffudd
2000s: the Dirty Sanchez boys

I think this timeline speaks for itself!

(Having said that, I really liked the Welsh film Leaving Lenin!)

What is with the oranges?

This is the Mexican R4, NTSC (fullscreen?) edition. Odd that MGM USA has not released this brilliant Lumet film yet.

(To the sound of a barrel being scraped) Which puts Wales just about on par with North Dakota or Rhode Island (perhaps even both?) for contributions to cinema. Cool, eh?

Cut them some slack - Wales is a very small country that has always had a small (is 'indigenous' the correct term in this regard?) population. Iceland's cinematic output hasn't been that great. Ditto: Estonia, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia/Croatia/Serbia or most South American countries - Africa, too. As I said previously, don't diminish the Welsh, as they are a feisty people who are deeply proud of their sons and daughters!

Why thank you, Gordon (tongue firmly in cheek). I wonder whether I'm the only 'indigenous' Welsh poster on this board...

As they should be. Not all brother-sister unions result in offspring.
