A relatively recent Italian (I *think*) film - I remember seeing it on the Rialto channel in NZ circa 2002... It was probably made in the very early 2000s or the mid-to-late 90s. It concerned an orphan girl living in a convent and her relationship with an older man (I think he wore sunglasses for most of the film) who had cancer (secretly) and was, I believe, a hitman.

Stuff that happened in the film:
- the girl's abusive boyfriend was beaten up and/or killed by the hitman guy, on a cruise ship (where the bf worked)
- the girl had a little rant about how she didn't want to be "wiping invalids' asses" (sic) for the rest of her life
- the girl asked the older guy to give her away at the altar when she got married, he said yes even though he was (secretly) dying of cancer

any info would be mucho appreciated

A late reply on this one, and I'm a bit surprised that nobody seems to have identified it up to now. It's "In Possession" from the Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense anthology (1984). The couple (who share the visions) were played by Christopher Cazenove and Carol Lynley, provider of said scream.

I highly doubt this is the case, but it sounds similar to Jigoku, a Japanese film about Hell. That sort of hellish cauldron/devil/Sisphyian imagery is pretty common in movies, though. You may have to be more specific.

I think it is most likely a screwball comedy. The scene she remembers involves someone's boring husband or boyfriend coming into a room and saying "Aha!! Coffee!!"

This still of Carole Lombard may not be from a specific film. Back in the studio days, stars were always posing for publicity photos and many of them were often oddball poses -- I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of those.

I suspected that, but wasn't sure. You're probably right, though about it not being from an actual film, oh well.

Yeah I have some pretty awful photos of Edward G. Robinson hiding in a grandfather clock or showing the camera a set of playing cards with a goofy smile on his face. That still looks kind of like, 'Carole Lombard - the woman they're all pointing at!'

No idea on the Lombard film but in a strange coincidence Jeremy Richey's Moon In The Gutter site has a few more publicity stills of Carole Lombard, this time from Supernatural.

I know this isn't exactly the thread, but I don't know where else to ask this: Sometime in the past year I stumbled upon a film blog entry after Google Image Searching that detailed Hollywood films' use of actual diner china in the noir films of the forties and fifties. The blog author gave a history of this particular kind of durable diner china and provided a lot of screencaps of its appearances in films. I remember being very struck by how such a strange detail could be documented so thoroughly and must admit, I now find myself watching the china during diner scenes in studio era films! But I can't for the life of me find this post or whatever blog it belonged to again via Google searching. I know a lot of readers here are also film blog readers, does this sound familiar to anyone?

I'm pretty sure the music in that scene is a John Barry original composed for the film. Which is why I connect that scene mentally to the space scenes in YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE also scored by Barry. It might be worth hearing it again to see if they did indeed use something from YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE for that although I'm sure I would have noticed immediately when I first saw MIDNIGHT COWBOY. I don't remember what images are seen on the screen in that scene, if any.

From what I could comprehend of the plot it’s about a group French soccer fans that attend a game in England. For some reason, one of them gets separated from the group and runs into a series of crazy mishaps. The guy can’t speak English which only makes things worst (and crazier) for him. Anyone has any idea of title of this?

It is indeed Barry's music under the scene (bought the OST first on LP, so I know that cue).
Was JOHNNY SOCKO live action? I though it was a cartoon ...
The clip looks too good to be from any of UA's cheeseball sci-fis of the 60s or 50s ... but I doubt they would have gone to the trouble of creating that sequence just for the film.

No no, it's not that Johnny Sokko stuff, which was in color. Here's the relevant scene in question-- it's an American production more than likely, it's in b&w... the scene concerns a stalled rocket drifting in space that the pilots are trying to repair.

a really low-budget American late 90s (?) film about a gunman in a college, the title had something to do with either philosophy or guns. Sort of deadpan humour throughout. Narrator provides most exposition. In one scene narrator talks about a time when a bunch of the school's philosophy students randomly jumped out of the classroom window and died.

Any info on this - and on the other film I posted about earlier - would be greatly appreciated!

I'm looking for help identifying a film found in A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies. Since my copy is currently about eight hours away from here, I can't exactly check to see what the name of the film in the clip is. If I remember correctly, the film in question is discussed just after Minnelli's The Bad and the Beautiful and is presented as a kind of thematic follow up to it. Again, my memory is a little hazy here, but I believe that it stars Edward G. Robinson (I probably have the star wrong, since I can't find anything under his imdb entry that sounds promisingly similar to my recollection) as an aging movie producer going through an existential crisis. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

It doesn't look like it from the stills I saw. Les fous du stade is from 1972 and the film I'm looking for is clearly from the (early) '60s.
