That's funny because in the US, they allowed fans to vote on the Sunset Blvd. cover.

In all honesty I'm still not sure what's reflected in his goggles. Is that the back of a woman's bikini with a knife pointed at her? If so, what's reflecting in the other goggle?

You've never seen Amsterdamned? It's from the same guy who made The Lift, the film about the homicidal elevator.

I remember it being rather good, although I haven't seen it since it came out. (Same with The Lift).

Of course, by "rather good", I mean relative to the expectations engendered by the subject matter of homicidal frogmen (and killer lifts).

I've don't think that I've fully seen The Lift but I always remember being scared as a kid by its cover art in my local video score (that and the Scanners cover traumatised me more than seeing the film later on ever did, or would be able to now!)

Interestingly (or not) Dick Maas later remade The Lift in the US as The Shaft (aka Down) with Ron Perlman, Michael Ironside and Naomi Watts, the same year she was in Mulholland Drive.

Anyway, despite the cover art I suppose the one thing we can at least be grateful for is that Shameless seem to have moved away from their awful punning bad taste taglines.

I saw them both about 6 months ago. The chase scene in Amsterdamned was impressive.

Surely you're not referring to this timeless classic?

That one, Night Train Murders' "Whores aboard!" and Torso's "Where whores meet saws!" puns spring to mind, but they're all pretty gobsmackingly hideous in their approach. OK, so the female characters might not be treated much better in the films themselves, but you don't need to make it a primary selling point!

In fact you could argue that Flavia The Heretic could even be marketed as a female empowerment film, at least until the men subjugate her again in the final flaying scene (adding an extra Joan of Arc-feel to the character being sacrificed), albeit one clear-eyed about the way that the reigns of power corrupts whichever gender holds it. (Though just seeing it as that would overlook or underplay the importance of the emphasis on religious hegemonies battling throughout the film, along with childhood traumas influencing adult actions and the way that, like its obvious inspiration The Devils, sexual feelings intermingle with religious ones)

That should be used as the cover of a photoshop guidebook, with the copy changed to read: "The Details... Pay attention to them".
