For at least the last sixty years, the BBFC has maintained a pretty clear distinction between sexualised and non-sexualised nudity, and it really doesn't have a problem with the latter.

Oh I know that, I was just surprised it wasn't explicitly mentioned. At '12A' or lower, they usually mention the presence of nudity outright.

I don't doubt that, but you would think, just from a purely advisory standpoint, that UK viewers would want to know if a penis is going to show up in a film full of long takes.

Having said that, it should be in the ECI.

Ross is right: we simply don't have the same hangups over non-sexualised nudity - even (gasp!) frontal male nudity - that seem to be all too prevalent on the other side of the pond.

I don't recall any advance warning about the PG-certificate A Room with a View, but I do vividly recall a packed audience at the decidedly genteel Curzon Mayfair practically rupturing themselves laughing at the relevant bit. Or bits, as I remember that there were three of them, on display for some time.

Another example might be that very brief twenty second sequence from I Capture The Castle, also rated PG as with A Room With A View (The BBFC report on the film doesn't really mention it either, unless it comes under the nebulous phrase of "sex references") . That moment certainly caused my eyes to widen when the BBC showed it at about 4 or 5 in the afternoon one Christmas!

Yes, the 2 shorts are the only extras. Miguel Gomes wasn't that keen on having an interview or similar.

With New Wave having acquired the rights to Caesar Must Die, I wonder if there might be any chance of some of the other Taviani films surfacing on DVD. I suspect there might be quite a lot of folk who would snap up a UK release of Kaos like a shot.

Oh, that's excellent news - I had to review it off a DVD-R, which was a bit of a comedown after experiencing Andrei Zvyagintsev's previous films in 35mm!

That's beautiful, I'm really glad I held off on the other releases now. With this, Tabu, Aurora (even in SD) and hopefully something from Loznitsa, 2013 is already looking pretty amazing for New Wave Films - I hope these will do well on the market!

Haven't seen this mentioned here yet: the ongoing vivaverve.com January sale (30% off everything, code JAN30) includes both Elena and Tabu for pre-order. I don't think those prices will be beaten anytime soon, at least for UK/EU customers...

Thanks for that. I just ordered both.

Impressively speedy delivery, but less impressive accuracy - I was sent a DVD instead of a BD!

Fortunately, the paperwork seems to back me up, but let's see how good their customer service is...

UPDATE: In a word, terrific - very speedy reply, and they're sending me the Blu-ray and a prepaid envelope to return the DVD. Can't argue with that.

UPDATE #2: The replacement disc turned up today, complete with return postage and label as promised. Since I only placed the order over the weekend, I can think of quite a few retailers who wouldn't have got the original package to me yet, much less sorted out a problem with it! So full marks, and I'll definitely be using them again.

Amazon description says it's being put out by Matchbox, but I though New Wave owned Still Walking and Soda owned After Life.

Considering it is up for preorder from a multitude of places, it seems to be genuine.

Soda has confirmed in another thread that Matchbox has licensed their disc for inclusion in the box set. I daresay this is true of the other rightsholders too.

New Wave have acquired the rights to two Berlinale screened films: Danis Tanovic's An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker (2012), and Jafar Panafi's Closed Curtain (2013). The Panafi should be a terrific addition to their catalogue.

Just in case it does; count me in for multiple copies of any BD release of this. I wonder how Elena did and whether that will have any bearing on NW's future BD plans?

Just for the record, I'd have bought it on Blu-ray too.
