Which means that the French DVD is still an essential purchase.

Apparently the Madman edition ports over disc 1 of the French one, but not disc 2 (with that Kiarostami masterclass feature). Can anyone confirm or deny?

I don't know about the Madman but the two disc Artificial Eye version includes both 'A week with Abbas Kiarostami' and 'A Lesson in Cinema'. Currently £4.99 at Amazon.

If it's the complete cut...

Last year I saw a screening of the restoration. When I get home I'll check the program to see what it says about the cut.

I don't hold out much hope that it will be the uncut version since the Kino disc was likely sourced from the same Rohauer print Cohen will be using...

The page for it (the restoration, no the disc) on their site lists it at 134 min.

I thought I saw the resto more recently than the program states (2011). Man time flies. It didn't specify cut or restoration, just a new 35mm print. Anyhoo, the Cohen site says 2K as well as the running time that Mr Hansen lists. Does 134 sound like the full version? Wikipedia didn't mention any kind of differing version.

The ems says "ca. 130 min" but that's in PAL. The cut scene is brief but crucial.

"134 mins" could mean either, as the uncut version only adds 50 seconds. The uncut German disc runs 134m42s (when adjusted for PAL) and the cut Kino disc 133m56s.

"Hangmen Also Die (1943). The Collection is working with Britain's Pinewood Studios on a 2K restoration of this Fritz Lang film that will reinstate a short sequence not in the version currently available here."

September 23 - Claude Lanzmann's The Last of the Unjust (2 disc set; list price for blu-ray is 49.98)
September 30 - Claude Chabrol's Merci pour le chocolat (Nightcap)

Another weak Chabrol film, though maybe they'll add in some good extras-- at this point I'm expecting an announcement of Comedy of Power! Since Merci pour le chocolat was put out by First Run, I'm guessing/hoping this means the superb the Bridesmaid is also coming soon (and I wonder if they're sitting on Betty and L'Enfer from the Kimstim box)

They have both Betty and L'enfer, plus The Swindle listed on their site, so I'd imagine that all three will get blu-rays eventually, assuming the already released titles are selling decently.

Ooh, Rien ne va plus is a great late period Chabrol, a wonderful To Catch a Thief spiritual successor

Another gem will be coming from Cohen at some point....

Cohen is quickly becoming one of my favorite labels. I just wish that they would start releasing the Keaton's. I suspect the Kino's hold on them should be up soon.

I can't wait for the specs on Favorites of the Moon, but I'm half afraid that Cohen is going to forget that they're even releasing it. Its kind of unreal that an Otar Iosseliani film is coming out on Blu-ray.

Like Dom I am also hoping for the Bridesmaid (La Demoiselle d'honneur) on blu, which I hope is accompanied by the full length 'making of (Haut les coeurs) showing Chabrol's relationship with cast and crew, where he veers erratically from batty old uncle openly scorned or at best begrudgingly tolerated to venerable maestro.
