Muahaha. It would be fantastic if that were true.

More like Jimmy cracks corn and dvd addicts care anyway.
I just looked in my box and saw it was written in 8 point font. I think this is the reason aliens haven't stopped by to give us better technology and medical advice, because they heard about our race buying a piece of heavy stock paper with a silly phrase on it for exorbinant sums of cash.
anyway, my theory is that the artist put his online handle on the bottom, where else does an artist sign his work?

Could the answer be in 'forum money' - i.e. $100 profit is Four Criterionsworth or Two Boxsettas.

I really have nothing but contempt for obsessive collectors and hope peerpee takes them all to the cleaners.
Anyone willing to pay over $100 for an edition containing words that nobody knows the meaning of will be first up against the wall come the revolution.
(peerpee, I'll take one off your hands for $350)

I still like the unused cover for Coup de Grace way better than they one they went with, but I think I only like it because it makes the actors look like exotic time-traveling beatniks inviting me on a madcap adventure.

I actually liked it, too. If I remember, though, when it was first posted up, not many people did. I also like those Jubilee covers a lot better, and even the 39 Steps one. I wish I could find that Hopscotch one because I also liked that one a lot better than that "WTF" cover they eventually used. If there's one thing that should never be on a Criterion cover it's Ned Beatty, no matter how little of him actually appears.

Thanks, Chris!
I`m a fairly large fan of the alternate Throne of Blood cover, but the one they went with isn`t bad either.

Interesting evolution of Jouvet's moustache for Quai. 1st they pretend it isn't there, then on the official cover they hide it behing the titles.
I bet they were tempted to do a George on the film and CGI it out.

No prob. I liked both Throne covers as well, though (not surprisingly) people bitched about both (of course, I also have no problems with the Jules and Jim cover so what do I know!?)

Not on mine, where specifically? Slow news day...

"Coup De Grace" would have been even better if they'd cut out the woman and enlarged the picture of him...

Another cover from the Future Shop site I missed before for the Life and Death of Colonel Blimp.

They're just in such short supply that demand is far outstripping supply. I'm sure bootleg editions will start appearing in a week or two, distinguishable only by the mysterious appearance of the phrase "no soap radio" printed under one of the glued-down flaps elsewhere in the set.

If all that anyone has left to say in this thread is "Hey, mine has it!" or "Oh jeez, I'm so bummed mine doesn't," I think that it has outlived its (already dubious) usefulness. I'll leave it open for a few more hours, but it's cruising for a locking.

Alternate Written on the Wind found on eBay's official description for the DVD. I've seen it elsewhere too at higher res, but can't track it down at the moment.

I always thought this was strange. Its been this way for a long time.
Insomnia covers:
1. criterion.com full-size
http://www.criterion.com/content/images ... 48x490.jpg
2. criterion.com thumbnail
http://www.criterion.com/content/images ... 00x140.jpg
3. amazon.com
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/63053 ... ZZZZZZ.jpg
I think the Amazon is the real thing...or was this disc released with two packages, old and new CC logo?
Criteriondvd.com uses the "old" style front cover and the "new" style spine.

Mine has the old style front cover and spine.

LMFAO!! I can't believe I'm loosing my eyesight over reading this shit!
PS - The 'art' for My Own Private Idaho is disgusting. If they're going to captitalize on the mugs of these two actors, then I'd go full blown on just River Phoenix. Really, who are they trying to reach with that cover, the matrix fanboys?

I'm glad they did not use the Coup De Grace cover, I like the one they went with better. In the unused poster it looks a bit like they are doing a performance - "Welcome to our angst ridden magical show! Sorry about it being set in a field but you all know how much venues cost these days, what with the war and everything. Anyway, my glamorous assistant here will produce from her bag - a bunny rabbit!" Cue the "ta-daa!" pose as used on the poster.
Really, who are they trying to reach with that cover, the matrix fanboys?
Hmm...bullet-time sex. Thinking of the Matrix - it's so obvious! All that phallic weaponary (ok, guns!) and having to dodge another guys fast-moving 'bullets'. Marian Keane would have a field day!
Sorry, am in a silly mood this morning!

Those covers are really cool! Especially Divorce...

The cover of Divorce Italian Style alone makes me want to order it.
