Executives actually make up a large portion of the Academy, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the execs featured in the In Memoriam montage were Academy members. And I also wouldn’t be surprised if the people listed on the final “…and the rest” screen were not members.

They did mute the applause this year, as beamish14 said, which was the only good decision made here.

Having now seen all of the Best Picture nominees, it feels as if the films championed during awards season were the strongest bunch I can remember. Usually there's several I have no real appetite to engage with, and many I still haven't seen from previous years, but not this year.

Agreed, I liked all but two, and even amongst those only one I'd call outright bad
