does anyone know when Playtime is finally going to be re-released by cirterion?

It seems like we have been waiting forever. I might just cave in and buy the BFI disc soon.

Personally, I'm hoping for a Tati Boxset containing ALL his films and ALL the different versions of them. PLUS documentaries, shorts, interviews, articles, trailers, games, stickers, pins, whatever! I'd buy it in a flash!

Seriously, though - why would they delay Playtime this much, hey?

I love Trafic! It's actually one of my favorite Tatis. It may not be as good as Mon Oncle or Playtime but I actually think it's his most funny of the lot.

I own the german DVD and the A/V have been completely restored and the results are very, very good if not excellent. The only way I will double-dip it is indeed if they are planning to release them all in a boxset. It makes perfect sense - he only made 6 features and a few shorts so a complete collection would be affordable and logical. I mean, look at all the Tati boxsets available in Europe! Criterion, jump on the bandwagon!

Criterion's excellent DVDs of "Bob le Flambeur" and "Le Cercle
Rouge" are excellent and were greatly appreciated by Melville fans.

However, there are still many Melville films unavailable on DVD in the
USA:

Army In the Shadows (1969)
Le Samouraï¿½ (1967)
*Le Deuxiï¿½me souffle (1966)
*L'Aï¿½nï¿½ des Ferchaux (1963)
Le Doulos (1962)
*Two Men in Manhattan (1959)
*When You Read This Letter (1953)
Les Enfants terribles (1950)
*Le Silence de la Mer (1949)

* Never on VHS, Laser in the USA

I find it staggering that "Le Samouraï¿½" isn't on DVD in the USA. Who owns
the rights? If it could be acquired, it would surely be one of the best
Criterion DVDs, ever.

So, my question is simply: Will there be any Jean-Pierre Melville films
from Criterion in the near future?

I speculate (and pray) that we will see two 70's obscure and vilified movies get CC's spinal numbers in the future. They are: Bertolucci's La Luna and Louis Malle's Black Moon.

They are both unavailable on DVD (or VHS for that matter) and if that Fox deal hasn't run out of titles yet, these two would fit the bill perfectly being as they belong to them.

I mean, who else apart from Blue Underground or Anchor Bay would tackle them? The former, and oedipal story taken to its last consequences (if you know what I mean...) while the latter is one 70's oddity to rival even Altman's 3 Women in its story treatment and imagery! These two would make fantastic Criterions!

Absolutely seconded! I've been holding out until "Playtime" resurfaces, a Tati box would make me a more complete person.

Can we speculate that Criterion is holding out on releasing Simon Of The Desert until they have another film to pair it with? -- simply because Simon is only about an hour long.

You should buy it now because I don't think Criterion would turn their attention towards this one anytime soon. Not speaking of my tastes, but in general it isn't a high priority as to the other lacking discs.
