The HDof Ran actually looks lower-def than the premium SD editions with which it competes (i e CC & Optimum).

(Canadian Alliance Release) - Region 1 - NTSC "Good Will Hunting" vs. Alliance - Region 'A' - Blu-ray
The Alliance DVD was pretty craptastic like every other DVD they've produced in house and those grabs do look pretty close (I sold the disc off long ago so I can't throw it in and confirm.) All of their early DVDs had the same problem, highly compressed and blocky.

Alliance is really doing their own Blu-rays now? Wow. And it doesn't look too bad, though I'm not shocked they only went with a single-layer disc.

Do we know if the CDN-Alliance "Good will hunting" release is identical to the US disc scheduled for release on the 17th?

It is the same disc Rich,
101 Distiribution are just re-issueing (usually region free Blu-rays - like Fear and Loathing from Germany...).
Buy from Amazon.ca (our link) it's $10 cheaper.

Too blue.
This is my first Disney classic in my collection, and it's amazing. I've never seen it or much of any of the others except Bambi (just a few years ago). I've only been a Pixar collector, but this film has it all. WOW.
