the First National shorts still being excluded is wild. would've made a very logical pairing with The Kid, if not in a big box. their Chaplin project has been going on for 14 years..

I think The Great Dictator has a 4K restoration that played one of the film festivals 3 or 4 years ago.

I’m also curious if Criterion has given up on a potential Harold Lloyd box set and just decided to have all his films available on the channel. A good majority of his early shorts and his early talkies are available on the channel and restored (?), it’s a shame that at the bare minimum they aren’t all just bundled together in a nice box set and just create extras for the shorts/features that are still popular.

If they want to make money, a Chaplin set is a no-brainer. What’s holding this up?

Countess is owned by Universal, and was released on BD by them in 2019. However, it did just receive a new 4K restoration.

A Woman of Paris announced for March 2025, marking the first Chaplin release since The Circus in September 2019. That leaves just The Chaplin Revue and its individual shorts and A King in New York.

I wonder if THE PILGRIM would constitute its own release. Technically a feature film according to the Academy and BFI.

The Pilgrim was never really considered a feature after Chaplin trimmed it for release
for The Chaplin Revue in 1959. I don't know if the original version is out there, but maybe
that's why the First National Collection is taking a long time. The last time they were released on
DVD A Dog's Life was re-edited to it's original length.
