I just staggered mentally. I would shed a tear, but I'm not drunk. Consider the sentiment the same regardless.

Or has it been mentioned elsewhere that A Man vanishes is doubled with Naryama?
Narayama is/was scheduled for 24th October.

Yup - that's one of the 3 October releases. There will be 2 in Nov. None in Dec. So we'll be making 4 new 2011 announcements on Friday, in addition to THE BALLAD OF NARAYAMA (Oct).
Then it's onwards to Q1 2012. There'll maybe be 3 in Jan, 2 in Feb, 2 in March. Or 2 in Jan, 3 in Feb, 2 in March. That sort of thing.
For the first time in years, we've pretty much got the next 12 months lined up.
New printed MoC Catalogue in Aug or Sept.

It would be marvellous to see some of Imamura's 70's documentaries paired off with the more well-known features. A dream come true, in fact. In any case, I hope the French release of Pirates of Bubuan heralds English-subbed releases of these films by someone. All I've seen of any of these are the clips from the excellent Cinema de notre temps episode.
Also, great news about the MoC schedule. You guys are on the verge of making me forget that Criterion exists. :-$

Amazing news about A Man Vanishes (if indeed MoC has it), thought the ATG thing would make things tricky. Hope it can be paired with History of Postwar Japan as Told by a Bar Hostess; and I also hope that you guys will consider Yoshida after you've released all the Imamura you'd like to! (Or Oshima....)

Due to logistical reasons out of my control (we're all ready to announce), the announcement is going to be made Tuesday 19th July. *Not* this Friday as previously announced. Sorry for the bullshit.
It *is* going to be one of our best announcements though! Fear not!

First thing that came to my mind when Nick said "best announcement" was Epstein, hopefully I'm not far off

I still hope the problems could get sorted out and it'll be Fejös' "Lonesome".

After many month's being away from the forum, coming back to read comments like this (even if they don't come true) makes me realize why it's so important for me to be here... Communal hope for beautifully restored rare silent films.

Since you've been away, you may not know that Lonesome is definitely coming from Criterion at some point. MoC did a mockup for cover art as well a few months ago but then said they hadn't actually acquired the film yet.

Universal haven't made an HD scan of the new film restoration, and it would require a lot of work post-scan. We can't commit to that. If Criterion are doing that, that's amazing -- but only Criterion will be putting that work out. Hence, we've moved on to other things.

Just bring out a hamper of Epstein and we'll forgive you for Lonesome.

We're looking closely at sales of COEUR FIDELE. Further Jean Epstein releases *are* being pursued, but they're not going to be happening in the next 12 months.

Which reminds me that "Le lion des mogols" is not only perfect MoC material, but also exists in a lovely print out there which would only need some music score to make it another wonderful Epstein release....
