God that's gorgeous!

Hunger's lettering needs to be changed though, far too bland.

The eclipse set and Make Way for Tomorrow alone make this an excellent month. Revanche is just the icing on the cake. Beautiful covers all around too.

Cover art for Hunger looks like a temporary one.

Wow! Was Make Way for Tomorrow ever rumoured? That one's a shock to me. Beautiful cover.

Yet another gorgeous Ophuls cover. And MWFT is great as well.

Yeah, I think it was even confirmed at some point.

LOVE the cover. However, as this is the only title I'm interested in purchasing this month, I'm kind of bummed that it's the only main line release without a Blu-Ray.

No Stagecoach, but a terrific lineup anyway and most of it on blu.

Make Way For Tomorrow is Seth, I think. Beautiful.

It most certainly is Seth's work. Very, very nice.

I disagree. I think it matches the stark, blunt nature of the film perfectly.

Wonderful news all around! I'm so excited about Make Way for Tomorrow!

I've been trying to cacth up with C&C on TCM because it's been a good many years since I've seen it - but they keep programming it in the wee hours of the morning. My recollection is that Leigh & Rains are quite wonderful (as is the supporting cast, which includes Flora Robeson & Ernest Thesiger) but the film is a bit leaden. It's been even longer since I've seen Androcles (& only once) & I regret I have no clear memory of it.
I'll probably be picking up this set, however, for C&C as I'm a big fan of Leigh & Rains. It's worth the price of admission just seeing how many different ways Rains can mispronounce the name Ftahtateetah (Robson). [Godnose if I'm even spelling it right...]

me too, just because the 35mm stock was older and less fine grained and the optics used were generally softer doesn't mean films from the 30s don't look great in blu. :-p

otoh, this is one I won't have a problem with rebuying on blu if they ever deigned to reissue it.

and goddamn, fucking great art.

Wow, I'm pretty stunned by all the cover art this month...

Though, a quick Google Images search leads me to believe that the Revanche art could have been so much more:

Three out of four is very respectable indeed. The McCarey cover is just amazing. The fact that the film is coming out at all and in such a beautiful package almost makes me swoon with joy. It's a shame I don't care much for Max Ophuls' films other than Le Plaisir and Letter... because the Criterion covers of these are without exception excellent. The only cover that I'm not sold on is Revanche although it's the font more than anything else.

Does The New Yorker get a cut on the McCarey?

That Revanche cover art is underwhelming, but will certainly take on new meaning after you see the film. You can see some Eric Skillman's other mock-ups for the poster art here. I wish they had gone with the blue one with the axe for the DVD.

After seeing all the negative reaction in this thread, I'm a little embarrassed for being so unabashedly gushy about Revanche's cover art. No idea what it invokes in regards to the movie, but I think it's delicate and well done--intriguing for someone who hasn't seen it yet. If any of the covers don't do it for me this month, it's Hunger....very blah (not unlike the movie itself...)

I couldn't agree more! Looks like Criterion's back to making awesome covers after a down spell.
