Beyond Imamura, and without naming any titles or anything of course; can you say whether there will be more Japanese films added in the next 12 months?

I want zedz's dream of a box of Epstein's Breton films to come true.

The only way to ensure this is to force at gunpoint everyone you know to buy a copy.

I think Eureka should have a yearly subscription like Olive Films, I am more than willing to fork out 10-15 quid every month.
They could have a member exclusive blu-ray, as an added bonus every year.

Except it's a crock of shit and proves that our idols have feet of clay.

I would subscribe to such a service, though I doubt they would go to all the effort of prepping something on Blu-ray only to limit the number of people that can buy it!

I'm sure they would love to go to all the bother of an extra Blu-ray release only to limit it to a minute fraction of their audience. :roll:

Beyond Imamura, yes, we do hope to release more Japanese titles in 2012.

Our main focus though, over the next 12 months, is on two countries other than Japan.

I get emails every week from people asking whether we'll release such and such, and my replies are often focused on the need for an HD scan / full restoration having taken place already. We spend a lot of our time licensing, evaluating masters and encodes, proofing subtitles, and working on our booklets -- we often only have a month for production time on each release. We can only stretch to a couple of HD restorations a year, and they are crippling in their cost and the time they take.

Thankfully, more and more rightsholders/licensors are seeing the benefit in doing their own HD scans/restorations. If anyone's aware of any top notch HD restorations having taken place, please let us know, and we'll endeavour to licence them for the UK and put them out on Blu-ray. Email me at: [email protected]

Thanks!

No need to be sarcastic, i was just trying to see how a membership program could be both viable and enticing.

Make it Germany and France in the 30s, and you have a very, very happy customer....

Funds are tight, but I'll be buying soon.

Good news on potential Criterion Lonesome. Can you link the thread where that's discussed, and the mock-up cover.

And Criterion confirmation.

Also, a couple weeks ago Criterion posted a blurry photo on Facebook listing a number of releases planned for 2012, and one of the blurred scribbles looked an awful lot like Lonesome.

But surely you see how absurd this suggestion was? :D

there is an awesome director called Jean-pierre Lefebvre who made films in Quebec. He is not very known today since his work hasn't been released on dvd except two films (far from being his most important work). He once got four of his films screened in Cannes in the same year at the directors fortnight (in 69 I think). He was also hailed by the Cahiers du Cinéma. His films Il ne faut pas mourrir pour ça and Le vieux pays où Rimbaud est mort are really great. They are available in VOD in HD on Quebec Quebecor's television service but not elsewhere... I watched about 10 of his films and the transfer are very good!

I guess its Quebecor's elephant that restored them: http://elephant.canoe.ca/a_propos/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There are trailers from my three favourite from Lefevbre:
http://elephant.canoe.ca/films/il-ne-fa ... 17001/1971" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://elephant.canoe.ca/films/vieux-pa ... 66001/2346" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://elephant.canoe.ca/films/revoluti ... 36001/1976" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They also transferred Le temps d'une chasse by Francis Mankiewicz (Les bons débarras-Good ridances)

I think those would make awesome releases!

As well as Poussière sur la ville...

Sigh, everybody knows MOC are just porting the Sternberg boxset over to blu-ray and the UK. It's nice but, I can't back that up.

Do they? Where was this announced or hinted at? I hope they don't personally. I hate it when the best English-friendly companies in the world duplicate their Blu-ray releases.

Praying its Germany and Italy!

They should rather release Sternberg's "Crime and Punishment" or "The king steps out". That'd be something.

They should release every movie von Sternberg ever made. On blu. For $5. And you should win things for watching.

They should steal the silents from Warner's vault and run away with it, giving them for free with muffins and declare peace all over the world

(no wait, as long as they release something that I want. They're pretty good at this)

Exactly. And they don't even have to include them in their ridiculously cheap monthly sales.
