Gathering from his Top Ten list and his comments on Videodrome, I can't help but wonder how much an influence Crash was on him, especially in regards to Drive.

Have you ever been in front of a camera with a light on it? It's fucking awful.

Most HD cameras these days can handle low light situations fairly well. Looking at the video, I'd say there was no light on or near the camera at all; the only visible light source appears to be the overhead lights in the storage room.
Perhaps I'm being needlessly pedantic, but you comment prompted me to go back and review how the video was shot. My verdict is that Winding-Refn is just trying to be cool.

He should be careful! There are
traps all over NYC that snare the sort of people who wear sunglasses in a closet

I'm sure Wong Kar Wai will do the same if he's invited to the Criterion offices.

I was actually thinking Kiarostami too, but I think he has some kind of affliction. I was smirking only because while wearing sunglasses indoors, or at night has long been the bastion of cool guys, wearing them in a supply closet just seems kind of silly. Like wearing sunglasses to bed or something.

That would be great, especially if he could have done a sit-down interview with Michael, not unlike the DePalma/Baumbach segment for
Blow Out.

Criterion's probably going to hit 150K likes today or tomorrow...

If I recall correctly, they didn't have a sale or do anything special when they hit 100,00, as many were expecting/hoping.

I believe they hit 100K in the middle of a B&N sale. So at the time, they just said "thanks everyone for liking us" but then they had a random flash sale like a month later.

We interviewed Werner Herzog about one of his favorite filmmakers at @TheLondonWeHo! Here’s a photo:

Errol Morris, no doubt.

I've long found their continued friendship somewhat surprising considering Errol's low estimation of Herzog's documentaries (he used to call Little Dieter Needs to Fly Little Werner Needs to Lie) and his continued search for truth in film and photography. In any case, I'd love to see the interview.

From co-exec-producing The Act of Killing to boosting other docs and each other's work, they've been friends for decades now. All the way back to Morris helping scout locations for Stroszek (in part out of his unrealized Ed Gein film) and Herzog inspiring Morris to go out and make Gates of Heaven by promising to eat his boot if he actually did it.
Here's hoping this means the Morris box is coming soon. We know they have The Thin Blue Line, Gates of Heaven, Vernon Florida and A Brief History of Time. It would be great if they surprise us with at least one more title like Fast, Cheap and Out of Control.

Oh I'm fully aware of their relationship, but when I asked Morris about it years ago he kinda played it off. It just doesn't really make sense to me, in light of what they're both about. That being said, I can imagine few pairs of directors I'd rather have a drink with.
Morris's films out on decent blu-rays is something I've been lusting after for years. I know we've been speculating on them for a while, but is there any real evidence Criterion might put them out?

Morris has personally confirmed an upcoming Criterion release of A Brief History of Time on his Twitter page. The other early titles are oop from MGM/IFC Films. And it would seem weird for Criterion, who has relationships with both companies, to release just one title.

I think we did have some oblique confirmation of those three early films, a long time ago, but I can't remember what it was.
If those films are released, I would love to see extras specifically devoted to the abandoned features out of which they evolved (e.g. the 'Nub City' and 'Doctor Death' documentaries). Morris can talk and talk, so I hope he's all over any release with commentaries, reflections, updates and so forth. Stick him in the Interrotron, Criterion!

I could have sworn that the Doctor Death project eventually came together (haven't seen the film though).

You seem to be confusing the unfilmed Dr. Death (about an extremely pro-death penalty Texas psychiatrist) with Morris' much later Mr. Death (about a hobbyist designer of electric chairs and other prison execution systems who also happens to be a Holocaust denier).
I agree with zedz that extras on those unshot films would be most welcome.
