I've only been able to take a glance at Harakiri so far. Those intertitles are in English.

I just rented the new BluRay of Griffith's Abraham Lincoln, and I'm glad I didn't buy it.....Kino MUST be called to task for the absolutely horrific fake stereo they have been subjecting mono soundtracks to on many of their BluRay releases!! Bird of Paradise had the same thing (ditto the Keaton sound shorts), which seems to utilize the WORST sounding software, set on auto-pilot, which splits frequencies between 2 channels which a big hole in the middle of the stereo image. To this they have added a "ping-pong" style reverb, which does the rest of the job in ruining the sound. Perhaps this is aimed at those with a 3 inch tv speaker? I don't know, but it's headache inducing unlistenable on anything else. What's worse is that reviewers unfamiliar with the basics of audio restoration just blame it on the early sound technology! What's next, Ruscico-style 5.1 "bumps"? On top of this incompetence, they can't even use a de-clicking program to remove debris from the track? This can be done with a $40 piece of software these days. I'm sorry, but Kino needs to hear from as many of us as possible, and get this suppose audio engineer taken off these projects, and redo these disgraceful releases!

The Blue Angel review is up at Bluray.com

German version only, and all the DVD extras dropped? Looks like the upcoming MoC is the only way to go,

I already took the leap, preordering the Kino blu from ImportCDs, and I have the English-version-only DVD sitting around, from Kino's "Glamour Girls" box set, which also did not include any of the special features that were on the 2-DVD edition. Kino sure knows how to be generous. Are they aware they have competition? I guess I should go ahead and cancel the entire remainder of my discounted ImportCDs order.

Along with Fear and Desrie and Die Nibelungen, The Blue Angel will be another title in which I will be getting the MoC version as opposed to the Kino version. Damn, Kino has really been dropping the ball lately...

Has Kino ever bettered MoC in a head to head showdown? The only times I can think of that come close are when the MoC came out long beforehand.

I don't think Kino has really ever bettered MoC, it's just that their recent releases seem to be so much inferior.

As we were just discussing the other day, both companies' Keaton shorts sets are probably essential.

I wonder why they are taking so long for The Grapes of Death.

and more importantly - for me anyway - The Night of the Hunted

Edit: and then I see this. Guess everyone gets what they want. Thanks Kino.

Morris Engel's magical The Little Fugitive is being released on Blu-ray on March 26. Back in January, Engel's daughter had told me Kino didn't have Blu-ray plans at that time. Glad to see that's changed.

A question for those who own both the Kino and Artificial Eye editions of Fantomas: Do they have the same music score?

Yes, they both have the excellent Catalogue Sonimage score.

Get the Kino, it has the David Kalat commentaries.

Thanks to both of you. I own the Artifical Eye already, and I pretty much plan on getting the Kino too for the commentaries. I love the score so much that I can't imagine watching the film any other way. I just wanted to see if it was safe to part with the AE or hold onto it for the music.

For some reason I thought Fantomas was already released on Blu, I guess I got it mixed up with Les Vampires. What are the chances of Fantomas getting the HD treatment.

For those who will still wondering, Kino's new Buster Keaton box set is officially 14 discs...

This Blu-ray exclusive set includes the following Ultimate Edition releases of: BUSTER KEATON: SHORT FILMS COLLECTION: 1920-1923, THE SAPHEAD (1920), OUR HOSPITALITY (1923) SHERLOCK JR. / THREE AGES (1923 / 1924), THE NAVIGATOR (1924), SEVEN CHANCES (1925), GO WEST / BATTLING BUTLER (1925 / 1926), THE GENERAL (1926), COLLEGE (1927) (exclusive to the box set until 2013), STEAMBOAT BILL, JR. (1928) AND LOST KEATON (1934-1937).

Back in September, an erroneous press release stated that the box would contain 15 discs which has proven not to be true.

"White Zombie" Blu-ray offers both a 'digitally remastered DNR superscrubbed clean' version, and an untouched "raw unenhanced" version. Guess which is more problematic?

Holy cat, that screencap from the DNR'd transfer in the MD review is one of the worst things I've ever seen. Kino Kino Kino, this is what happens when we start to trust you!
