Could be an Eclipse, or it could be a fuller release of Lion's Love backed with the 60s shorts (and other extras of the kind that Varda seems to love putting together for the Cine Tamaris releases of her films) and a twofer of Documenteur and Murs Murs. I think those two films used to habitually travel together - at least that's how I saw them way back when.

Speaking of horror titles, a French BR of Eyes without a Face is forthcoming, which might bode well for a possible Criterion counterpart.

It'd be wondeful to have a couple more surprises for Halloween too, such as Seconds (if only Paramount would allow it to escape from the limbo of discontinuation!).

I just checked to see whether my version has any special features: it doesn't say so on Amazon but I note I bought it almost exactly three years ago, on 26th June 2007, and I still haven't watched it yet
(although I've seen it many times on tv and its my favourite Frankenheimer film)

It has a Frankenheimer commentary, no?

edit: can't quite put my hands on it right now: as I don't have too many Frankenheimer films and its a US film I may have filed it with a number of 'orphan' category US films.

But after watching Oshima's 'Double Summer' now might be the time to catch up on other great favourite b&w films which I've not yet seen in DVD: 'Seconds' and Kurosawa's gorgeous 'Stray Dog'

Yes, and it's excellent. I believe they carried it over from the old laserdisc.

Shame I didn't pick the film up when I had the chance: now it's practically impossible to get it at most retailers and the very few places that have it ask exorbitant prices.

I think I got mine at Hastings used for like 5.99. A definite steal. The original Seconds poster is a definite must have when I get more money to decorate my place.

criterioncast says it Cronos is going to be a December title...a bit not mentioned in the above link. so maybe they'll spread them out one a month for us....Hausu in Oct, Night of the Hunter in Nov, and Cronos in Dec? All of them for christmas for me?

I am just curious, what does the return of New Yorker Films mean to the titles that Criterion was rumored to take over from them?

I was looking forward to the possibilty of many of their titles (many of which, if I'm not mistaken, also carry the Janus logo too) making it back into print in Criterion editions.

Does mean that we should no longer consider Godard films like Weekend, the works of Jean Vigo, the Dandennes brothers, Bressons, etc as possiblities for Criterion since it seems that New Yorker will retain them?

I don't think anyone seriously believed that Criterion would take over any of the titles New Yorker have in their library, especially after no one bought the library at auction. There were titles for which New Yorker let their rights lapse--Weekend, I believe, among them--that Criterion may have picked up.

Criterion seemed to have no clue on what was going on with the library when asked several months ago on Facebook.

I wonder why they're interested in releasing The Killer Inside Me, which has generally been panned by critics but passed on stuff like Red Riding, Vincere, Police;Adj.

I'm more than willing to blind buy both The Killer Inside Me and Antichrist. I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I've enjoyed the IFC titles released so far. Everlasting Moments, Summer Hours, Hunger, A Christmas Tale have all become some of my favorite contemporary foreign language titles in the collection. (Not that there was much competition)

I think I'll put Antichrist on my Christmas list when the time comes. And I might put Hausu on there if I like it or not (I'm seeing it in August at the Music Hall).

Excellent news! looking forward to actually seeing the film and since it`s highly unlikely it`s ever gonna be released in cinema over here I`d say: bring on that CC disc.
