Amazing news about Visitor Q and Gozu, had no idea they'd be able to to the latter so that's excellent they finally managed to figure it out. I wonder if they can also get UK rights for A Colt Is My Passport whilst they're at it?

Insane they're planning another 6 volumes of Radical Japan, we've only really been speculating the next one or two let alone that many. Perhaps they've made some significant strides in Japanese licensing, and be interesting to see what the second volume will entail as that'd likely provide a hint to what kind of direction they're going. I wonder if the hope is eventually Toho will have to take notice and they can fulfil some long-requested wants (I'm thinking Teshigahara).

Radiance already said a while back that they couldn't get A Colt is My Passport

I wonder if they are going to be smaller sets, because I don't know if there is enough life left in physical media to get that many bigger sets out, unless they shift their focus almost exclusively to them.

As for Toho, I don't think they care

I hope Masumura is represented in one or more volumes.

This feels like a nonsensical statement. The boxset completely sold out within a matter of months.

Sony is phasing out physical discs for the PS by 2028, assuring that the next generation of video game machines will not have disc drives, so I am not sure that there is 6 years left in the ability to press discs.

There's enough 60s Yoshida remaining for two whole sets of equal size to the Oshima, and conveniently enough they're split between Shochiku and his own independent company (though I believe those are still Shochiku properties).

On that note, there's enough 60s Oshima left for another set as well.

Agreed TM, boutique labels appear to be doing well right now. Long may they continue!

6 more Radical Japan sets is amazing, I hope Disgrace is right about more Oshima, I fear for two sets of Yoshida when his Arrow and Radiance releases haven’t been the biggest sellers but so many big films (restored by Carlotta) are sitting there waiting to be released…

Shinoda is obviously a big name too. Radiance has been great for introducing many of us to less well known Japanese filmmakers so hopefully some of these sets will explore some less well known ATG filmmakers…

There are already only a few disc pressing plants left, they already have more than enough business for this to not be an issue (see the resurgence of vinyl pressing plants for what this will look like). Be more worried about fewer companies producing machines capable of reading them!

That is the other issue that physical media fans are going to be hitting as well. How much longer are the machines going to be available.

As for the plants, from what I understand, due to the costs and scale needed, there isn't going to be a busineas of boutique optical disc pressing plants. (Since the few active plants are so busy, why hasn't there been new plants opening to meet demand?)

Games are huge now, and often sold without a disc at all. Some of them install at 200+ GB and they don't want to invest in 2-3 discs to accommodate that data. Would say that Playstation's decision isn't a harbinger of anything on the movie side, but maybe I'm just naïve.
