Jean-Claude Van-Damme is playing Dillinger in this whole new gangster flick from Criterion. I'm so excited action films getting a little love in the collection.

I love the Godard cover. It's better than the poster, if you ask me. Too bad about the Wacky C though. Ride with the Devil is striking as well, but the others are nothing special.

I LOVE that Vivre sa vie cover. =D> Vivre sa vie and the Fugitive Kind for me. Heck, I'll end up getting them all. Ride with the Devil's artwork makes me want to get it for that reason alone.

Vivre sa vie's cover is one of their best. I'm also fond of the Fugitive Kind artwork although I wouldn't have crammed the title and the cast all into the top half and left corner of the cover which makes it look unbalanced (to me anyway). I generally find all April covers an improvement over March's. Film-wise there's nothing that sticks out as a must-buy for me personally (liked but didn't love the Assayas, find Lee too much of a middle-brow filmmaker and am decidedly not a fan of Godard but Vivre sa vie might be a rental at least); only the Lumet intrigues me enough initially to buy it. I *think* I've seen it a long time ago but am not 100% sure. In a way I'm glad I won't be getting anything in April - there's so much out in March.

All of those covers are great. Looks like Criterion is back on the ball. I'm quite happy with the Godard, but the Lumet and Assayas are outstanding.

Is it just me or should they of used a different color for the Ride with the Devil's wacky C and spine? Maybe black or something. Looks too "customed" like.

As disappointed as I am that Criterion is releasing Ride with the Devil, I do like the cover. I'm impressed they didn't paste the cast all over it. And Fugitive Kind doesn't get a Blu?

ALL great covers. I think it's great that they used something new, which actually works in and of itself, for the Vivre Sa Vie cover instead of rehashing available artwork.
It enrichens the experience for those who already have the poster.
Summer Hours is just wonderful, really.
Even the titles placement in The Fugitive Kind seems tasteful to me. I must be out of my mind.

The Fugitive Kind is a great cover. It's reminiscent of a vintage paperback movie-tie in edition.

Love the covers too, though Ride With The Devil and Vivre sa vie are particularly striking.

I'm actually really looking forward to picking up the intially rather mis-sold Ang Lee film (though I suppose it was difficult to sell, given the more physical confrontations and what could be considered the 'action climax' takes place in the first section of the film and the remainder is about the relatively downplayed consequences of the upheaval of war and society on the four archetypal main characters), especially with the subtle revisionism away from just Ulrich and Maguire being the stars of the film that the interview with Jeffrey Wright implies.

Though of course this more intellectual approach to appreciating the film does mean I have to hang on to my original DVD in order to still have access to Jewel's music video... :-"

A very nice month of covers for films I'm not necessarily interested in, though I agree with the sentiment that the Lee film's spine needs to be changed. Exactly what I thought when I saw it: "Ew, that looks like it came straight out of the 'fake' covers thread."

wow, it is a new world here. after all the praises for the vivre sa vie poster a few years ago and all the expectation of that being the cover, i was expecting backlash for the actual cover....

it is a solid month for artwork. summer hours is the least noteworthy, but maybe that's just because i haven't seen it yet.

Have you all lost your minds? That Vivre sa vie cover is a piece of shit, especially in comparison to the poster. I mean, really now

I think it's something new, for the people who have the poster. Also I like the blue lettering.
