A new print of Nostalghia from KinoLorber has been showing as recently as last week at Brooklyn Academy of Music. The word on Stalker as of a couple years ago was that they didn't have the Blu-ray rights. Mirror was supposed to come out last year but then so were new releases of Dersu Uzala and Come and See, so who knows what goes on with Kino anymore.

Odd that Kino ended up with several of the OOP Wellspring titles (guess they've been desperate to add to their catalog, after Cohen took most everything - so far Russian Ark and Nostalgia are all thats been confirmed). Here's that list of former Wellspring OOP titles I dug up - looks like Criterion/Kino have been dividing it thus far.

Disappointed that Kino ended up with The Trial, since I doubt it will come close to the Studio Canal Bluray, which is a shame. Kino seems to really be unaware of what other editions are already out (to try and better).

Unless Kino uses the same transfer for The Trial as StudioCanal, it's sure to look better though, right? [/famouslastwords].

And speaking of delays ... did we ever find out what happened with Night Tide?

Is this the first time we've seen MoC and Kino go head to head since Nick left? It'll be interesting to compare the releases and see if MoC still goes the extra mile over Kino.

I can't believe there are people willing to pick SC over Kino for the Trial without any insight into the latter. The Studio Canal blu ray is frustrating and filled with "grain management" of some sort. It wouldn't be hard for Kino to better the SC.

It might be easy to improve upon the image....or present a better package, but the question is whether we have any faith that Kino can step up to such an easy task......and from past experience, I don't put much (any) faith in it. Kino doesn't seem to put much effort into their products, not in the artistic design (hell, they're still using the cheezy blue logo dating back to the early 80s in their blu-rays), not in their selection of (or should I say absence of (bonus features/commentaries), or in correcting basic errors (aspect ratio, color). With some of their initial blu-ray releases (Happy Together & Fallen Angels), it did seem like they had turned a new leaf, but a number of releases on & I'm underwhelmed once again.

Kino has also stopped printing inner artwork as well... Just cutting down? I hope they impress with "The Trial" and "Russian Ark", I've been eyeing both UK editions (BD and DVD respectively) for some time now.

The Man You Love to Hate is 'newly remastered in HD from the original negative' according to them.

Interesting that the documentary also appears to be its original length now, where as the previous Kino DVD was heavily cut to remove copyrighted clips from Greed etc. and replace them (to some extent) with stills. I'll be curious to see if they've managed to include all the clips this time.

And as L&H fans know, any film is enhanced with the presence of the "eternally ever popular Mae Busch".

Is it common nowadays for Kino's releases not to have subtitles? Their otherwise excellent-looking release of Taika Waititi's Boy could have really used them, as a significant portion of the dialogue is going to be difficult for American audiences to understand.

It's actually still the Raro, Kino's just distro-ing, no?

That would be a bit odd since Raro have their own distribution set up.

Perhaps they're just exploiting its Public Domain status? (as is the case with many of their films)

What is the general consensus on Night Tide? I've been wanting to see it for a while, but haven't had the opportunity.

Yes, this is curious. The current Blu-ray took a public domain print and DNR'd it to mush. I sure hope Kino has something better planned. Has this been confirmed as a Blu-ray release or just DVD?
