Pete Walker's House of the Long Shadows is a long-awaited film more many - I was hoping that this might turn up in the Flipside (it has screened in that slot at the NFT I believe). [Note to MichaelB - Please!]

And Truffaut? Truffaut?? It's the end of world I tell you, the end of the world...

And not just any Truffaut.... One of his best films. I was always hoping for a Criterion of this. Would sure beat out The Last Metro.

Thankfully a lot of these films were released on Non-R1 editions (although The Landlord, being my favorite of Ashby's films, sadly isn't amongst them) so if you like actual DVDs, you might still be in luck.

Optimum also has The Best Man available in the UK. It's 66% off at Amazon right now.

But very much like the Warners Archive, there are several titles here that really deserve proper DVDs, like VALENTINO and THE WHISPERERS.

Joan Micklin Silver's searingly funny Between the Lines (1977) with John Heard and Jeff Goldblum has also been available through the line since early last month. Forgot to post that little tidbit...

Does anyone have links to The Best Man, Man of Iron, Valentino, The Whisperers and Highway Patrol? I can't find them, and at least three of those I've wanted for a while!

Not as I remember it, but that was 20 years ago.

I would like to give it another go, I like most of Pete Walker's stuff, and you can't complain about a cast like that.

Truffaut's "The Green Room" is the last VHS tape i have and it's nice they will release it on dvd and in the 1:66 widescreen format i hope!

It's strange that the disc for sale is entitled The Vanishing Fiancée when the film was originally released with the title The Green Room in the U.S. based on the reviews I found in the New York Times and the L.A. Times. Does anyone know the story behind this alternate title?

Supposedly there is a widescreen transfer shown on TCM, but we can only hope that it's the same transfer being used for this DVD. For all we know at this point, it could be the fullscreen, dubbed version that they're selling. Personally I'd wait, but someone will have to be first and take the risk on it.

I pretty much said the same thing as Duncan, that it's not a very good movie, but if you're up for a crew of horror film icons doing a kind-of remake of SEVEN KEYS TO BALDPATE, you might find it fun.

If Il Duce will allow me to post a follow up on the earlier mocking of those who wouldn't buy the R2 Two For the Seesaw, apparently the MGM BOD is letterboxed non-anamorphic and only four times as expensive as the R2. Gee, what a great deal!

The Offence is my favourite Connery performance. Absolutely tremendous.

Just received it and did a comparison to the vhs copy...both have a slight letterbox image to it but the print used for the dvd is cleaned up and looks very good. No menu..it goes straight to the movie when you put it in the player. Not bad but the dvd is not anamorphic so you will have the black space on the sides of the image.

Thanks, atcolomb. It's good to know that the print looks decent, even if the DVD isn't anamorphic. I'll go ahead and order a copy.

My copy pixelated and froze a lot around the 30-35 minute mark. I saw a reviewer on Amazon basically say the same thing. Thanks for all your TLC with this, MGM. Even for DVD-Rs, this is one lousy transfer. [-(
