since the info is now gone from that link, maybe hope isn't lost for Criterion to release it afterall, possibly in August(?) and that could be why Universal briefly had it up

I was hoping the same thing. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Not a chance. Universal don't distribute the titles they licence out to Criterion, so they wouldn't be advertising Criterion releases on their site in a million years, even accidentally.

Still no specs, but the beginnings of an annoucement are up at
DVD Times. Looks like it will be part of their "Legacy" line, like
The Sting, To Kill a Mockingbird, and
The Deer Hunter were last year. I'm pleasantly surprised to see them including a Paramount title as part of the "Universal Legacy."

Universal's page is back up and says it's a digipak like their other Legacy titles.
Supplements?

We can only hope that will not include a commentarytrack by Peter Bogdanovich #-o

Maybe he'll impersonate Stanwyck.

A more likely candidate would be Cameron Crowe, but I'd prefer someone more attuned to film noir
and Wilder, as well as something about Wilder's collaboration with Raymond Chandler, and ideally, a decent doc on Wilder.

A doc on Cain and/or Chandler would be nice as well. And although I already have a copy - an edition of the book would be nice especially for those who haven't read it. Postcards/lobby cards like they did for To Kill A Mockingbird would be fabulous as well. The international posters for TKAM were beautiful.

I agree. I'm not one to fawn over DVD packaging that much, but those movie poster reproductions in To Kill a Mockingbird were gorgeous. Anyone who bought the Legacy edition of that film and didn't get the cards can fax a copy of your sales slip, your shipping address, and daytime telephone number to Universal at (972) 293-5900, attention: Consumer Relations and they'll send them out free of charge.

Artwork from
The Laser's Edge:
Looks like original poster art, though I'm not entirely sold on that salmon pink background color. No specs so far.

That's because it is the orignal poster. It's not the DVD cover. First of all there's no DVD logo. Second of all, the legacy series has a certain banner on it, third of all, I'm POSITIVE, by 100% that Universal would not say "Paramount's" Double Indemnity on the cover.

What you're saying may be true, but I have never known Laser's Edge to post anything other than official cover art. If it's not available, they post one of these instead:

Commentaries aside the extras are a bit underwhelming. Sure the TV movie will be an interesting curio but I would love to see a doc on Wilder and/or Cain. I have a feeling Shadows Of Suspense will be a fairly generalized piece on film noir as a whole. But then again, there is still plenty of time for further announcements/additions.

that because this is universal. shame it isn't criterion...
and yes that pink cover is somewhat ugly.

The pink cover is not the cover. It's just the poster.

Schickel commentary.... snore.....
Nick Redman is a good one, thats fine.
Lou Dobbs? Why him?

Well it's Lem Dobbs, not Lou Dobbs the broadcaster, but yeah, still a really random choice. Lem Dobbs wrote The Limey, (the greatly underrated and in desperate need of a R1 DVD) Kafka and Dark City ---- and he has nothing currently in production....I had no idea he was a "historian"....

Of course, it would have been interesting to hear Lou talk about it. Maybe he could have tied it into immigration somehow.

Wow! That is promising news. With Criterion's interest in Soderbergh I would love to see them release this. Fingers crossed.
