Any way of asking Jia himself which he would prefer it to be shown with?

24 fps, please, Nick. I can't imagine the imperceptible difference is worth the incompatibility issues.

24 fps hasn't seemed to be a problem of the Antichrist Blus, so I don't see why it would here. Please do it in this way I can use, or else the puppy gets it. :|

Umm... the European ANTICHRIST Blu-rays are 1080i 25fps. It's not out on BD in the US yet.

+1 for 1080p24. But it would be great to get some kind of official ruling from Jia.

You and your facts. Next you're going to say the sun setting is an illusion caused by the rotation of the earth, fburrt.
Can I change that to my theatrical experience with Antichrist proved the change to be no biggie then?

Well, the Polish release of Antichrist IS 1080p@24p.

All the Zentropa-authored, director-approved ANTICHRIST BDs (Denmark, UK, etc) are 1080i/25.

I have no idea why the Polish BD is 1080p/24 (and region-free apparently too).

Bit odd LvT didn't just shoot it in 24.

No doubt the forthcoming Criterion BD will be 1080p/24?

Hey Nick,

Is putting both versions on one BD out of the question (i.e. was this going to be a BD-25 release that could be upped to a BD-50 to have both the 1080p24 and 1080p25 versions)?

Though that would be a big hassle (and presumably an expense) for something that maybe ten people will care about and most of those may not even be able to tell the difference. The rest of the purchasers will probably complain to MoC that the 'alternative version' is identical to the 'correct version' on their disc and demand a replacement.

I'm just worried that if a decision is not finalized soon, it won't make the August release date....

This is incredible! Looking forward to owning my second MoC. Maybe I'll take the deal on amazon right now!

I guess it depends on how the conversion is done and if it affects anything like the soundtrack. There was certainly a fuss raised way back in the early days of HD releases when certain Studio Canal transfers were found to have pitch problems. I think it was because the masters were originally used for PAL downconversions to DVD and somewhenre in the chain the soundtrack had been adjusted to compensate for the different rate. As it was not everyone was sensitive to this 4% variance with the attendent change in pitch.

I wouldn't have minded the 25fps version being released but then the Oppo does seem to handle 1080i50 releases well enough...

Unless you're going to complain about the Criterion Berlin Alexanderplatz and the like, this should be a non issue.

THE WORLD and BURMESE HARP were delayed a week to Aug 30th. We received THE BURMESE HARP last week, and THE WORLD today. Everything's going out now... obviously etailers are going to be sending them out next week once they arrive.

Received my copy yesterday and watched it today. This was my introduction into Jia`s work and I loved it. Beautiful and heartbreaking with a great performance from Zhao, the ending was brilliant.
The transfer is about as perfect as you can wish for. Looking forward to watching the extra`s one of these days, especially the Made in China documentary.

Watched the blu tonight and was equally impressed with the transfer and the film (only my second time seeing it, and it gained a lot this time around). There's something particularly satisfying about seeing 1080p transfers of films shot at 1080p - almost like having your own copy of the original 'negative.'

The only minor issue I had with the transfer were some (very) occasional moments where the film appeared to jump a couple frames. Audio sync remained intact, so maybe it's an issue with the original HDCAM master - I can really only guess as to why it happened but as I said it only jumped out at me during a few panning shots and otherwise the transfer is really lovely. I'm about to go back and start working through the supplemental material right now!

Also watched this last night -- and agree this looked absolutely wonderful. I've never understood the nay-saying directed towards this film (even by some Jia fans), it is one of my favorites (albeit a bit behind Platform).

I apologize if this has been asked already, but what are the chances of also getting Platform?

Platform is currently in-print on dvd from Artificial Eye, so unless the rights lapse, doesn't look likely.
(Hope MoC can pick up AE's oop Weekend and Van Gogh though..)

But it's unacceptable, as is the New Yorker disc.
