Well, I'll amend my original statement: "If Scott can make the movie as riveting as his son made this little marketing short, then I think it could be pretty darn good".

I really can't wait for this. never would have thought an Alien prequel would become my most anticipated film of the year...but it sure has with the latest clips.

That chat was a waste of time. The only interesting bit of info was Theron saying that she took inspiration for her performance from Tilda Swinton's turn in Michael Clayton; Ridley Scott's Q&A is hopefully going to be better. And yes, the IMAX trailer made me excited about seeing the film as well.

I nearly geeked out when I saw the image of what looked like an alien queen on the ceiling at the 1.36 mark. By and large I really like what I'm seeing in this and the previous trailers, with my only worry being that what Spaiths and Lindelof have cooked up for the origins story may be underwhelming, and that I preferred the gritty, dirty look of the Nostromo to the clean visuals in Prometheus. Scott said this was a conscious choice so fairdos. Not expecting Promehteus to be as good as Alien but I'm starting to be cautiously hopeful that it might turn out to be a decent prequel and good film on its own.

I'm not quite sure how to put this without sounding extremely geeky, but seeing all the gadgetry in this trailer, as compared to the crude design of the Nostromo there isn't as much of a disconnect as I feared there would be now. All the computer keyboards and flying equipment in Alien were circa 1978 or whatever, but in my mind now it fits into how they wanted it to look like a run-down ship. One can imagine Weyland-Yutani building thousands of those, and cutting corners where needed, such as communication.

Just from the trailer I'm presuming that Rapace is going to be in a similar role as John Hurt was in Alien (or Stephanie Beacham in Inseminoid!) as the most intrepid member of the expedition, looking as if she is going to be the lead character until something happens. I also wonder if Chalize Theron is going to be playing the obligatory robot, I mean artificial person, this time around? Or whether all of these expectations will get subverted in some way? (It is also interesting to see Benedict Wong among the cast, given that one of his previous major roles was in Danny Boyle's Sunshine, as the chap who ends up setting the fateful chain of events in that film going. He was also in Moon as well, so he's building up quite the science fiction CV)

I'm very excited about all the material released so far!

doh...i somehow glossed over the word "praying" in flyonthewall's post. I was struck by the one i posted as it wasn't in the US Trailer, so assumed he meant that after the UK trailer was posted.

Regardless, i'm excited to see her in this on top of everything else. and Fassbender seems unusually restrained from his usual self - I suspect he is the robot from the way he speaks in the trailer.

This really looks fantastic, and has the potential to usurp the title of most anticipated blockbuster from Nolan's Rises this summer. There are a couple elements that give me trepidation, though.

First, the cross-cultural message about the extra-terrestrials found in glyphs/symbols, which presumes some sort of holistic theory of origin for human culture. This whole bit has staggering similarities to Dan O'Bannon's first script for Alien, which included a pyramid structure fraught with glyphs and vases, not unlike those scene in the derelict craft in the trailer. AvP gleaned some of these elements from O'Bannon's original ideas, but I expect Scott will not even acknowledge that film. It appears these "higher" beings have some control over biological growth and the creation of life forms -- and there's a lot potential to intertwine these issues with Alien in an oblique and indirect way. The significance of Prometheus doesn't seem lost on Scott at all.

The set design, cast, etc. looks great, but I hope the film doesn't get clouded by blockbuster aesthetics: rousing Wagnerian soundtracks, too much CGI, etc. It's hard to discern what the film will cater to. Right now, it appears as if it's an Alien/Aliens hybrid with 21st century techniques; and that has great potential -- to be excellent or very disappointing.

This seems to be a nod to how Sigourney Weaver appeared in the final scene of the first film!

I miss the more low-key 70s style of acting, but I'm loving all the viral videos and the trailers are good.
