Yes, Hannibal is a well-done show. Though, it is disturbingly grotesque at times; the last three episodes have been especially gruesome, especially the one with the people being made to look like angels with their back skin - one of the most horrific & vile images I've ever seen in a TV show or film.

This week's episode was good; it was cool to see Gillian Anderson again, since I was a huge fan of The X-files back in the day - and, she hasn't changed much.

And, I am getting used to the show taking place now, instead of 30 years ago - after all, it is a re-boot. Plus, I am currently re-reading the Red Dragon novel (Thomas Harris, 1981), and had forgotten that in the novel, Will Graham doesn't meet Lecter until he actually investigates him, and immediately after that Lecter attacks him. So, unlike the show where Lecter is an "unofficial" consultant to Graham/Crawford, in the novel there is never any interaction between Lecter & Graham/Crawford prior to the actual investigation of Lecter's crimes. So, there is no way this show couldn't be anything other than a re-boot anyway, even if it had taken place in the past.

That being said, I wonder if the female web reporter Freddy Lounds will eventually meet a fate similar to the one met by the male Freddy Lounds in the RD novel?! Possibly not, since this is a re-boot - however, it seems like they're taking some elements from that novel & paying homage/making reference to them in the show (Garrett Jacob Hobbs, for one), so we'll see..

Fuller's said he's more or less going to adapt the novel proper in the fourth or fifth season (I can't remember) if he gets that many chances so your answer will have to wait a few more years.

I keep hearing in AV Club it's going to be the 4th season. 5th season is Silence (if they can obtain the rights).

Is it wrong to not care that they'll adapt Red Dragon or Silence of the Lambs but instead be more interested to see what the series would do with Hannibal?

I wonder who they'll cast? Fuller has said that he plans on reaching out to more Pushing Daisies actors, specifically Lee Pace, Anna Friel, and Kristin Chenoweth, and that he still wants David Tenant (who was second choice as Dr. Lecter) for a role.

As indicated in a previous article linked here, he wants David Bowie to play Hannibal's uncle which I would guess means part of season 2 will take place in his childhood, which should be interesting.

The buzz going around now is that Amazon and "at least one cable network" is interesting in scooping up the show if NBC lets go of it. I am thinking AMC would be perfect. It would give them the critical nod they'll need considering Mad Men and Breaking Bad are closer to their ends.

It costs practically nothing for the American company at least by procedural standards thanks to Gaumont footing most of the bill so it would be terribly stupid for NBC to let it go meaning they will do just that.

The promo for Blacklist (they're not only wasting Spader's talent, but they also his stole his hair) isn't doing much to assuage any fears that it is what they will do.

Last night's episode was mostly excellent. It's occasional predictability is one-upped by something completely off-the-wall, unexpected, or just plain awesome.

Last week's episode was well-done, though still gruesome as always. Interesting to see Abigail's role/connection to what her father did - not all that surprising, however. It looks like there will be four more episodes in the season.

Good to see Lance Henriksen again, though he has aged quite a bit. I've been a fan of his since first seeing Aliens back in the day.

I have 0 interest in seeing Red Dragon and/or Silence of the Lambs adapted for this show - they should just focus on the original storyline(s) that have already been established. Plus, RD has already been adapted into a film twice, and SOTL is such an iconic film I don't see the point of re-adapting this. That may just be me, however....

I have some interest in how they'll do it. Because of the format, those particular seasons could be more faithful to the books than their movies ever were. If they can pull those seasons off without me thinking so much about the movies will be a real testament to how good the show is.

As much as a love Manhunter, I really want to see a faithful adaptation of Red Dragon's ending. (I guess that I've almost seen it, as the ending of Argento's Opera is kind of a take off/rip off of Red Dragon's ending.)

One can only hope that this means Fuller tops his previous record for longevity.

I'm glad we're getting this 2nd season, but I hope the show lasts the 7 he has projected it to.

Last night's episode was probably the most terrifying for me, by a thin margin mind you. I like that for something that is essentially a procedural, there is a sense of cohesion even among the "cases of the week". The scene with the tomb, and some of the characters re-appearing in future episodes (I believe Ellen Muth will be in the final two of the season).

While I really enjoy the scenes between Gillian Anderson and Mikkelsen, anyone else get the feeling they were shot all on the same day? It's gotten to the point that I'm not sure Anderson's legs function anymore since I think they've only included one brief scene where she's slightly mobile (and now I'm thinking I might just have imagined it).

Tonight's episode blew your theory into a million pieces, but for the greater good. Oh how this show sucks me in.

I agree, the finale was fantastic. Despite ending on such an extreme cliffhanger, even if we had been told it had been cancelled and there wouldn't be a second season, it would have remained satisfying.

Was there a point during this season, when the ratings were what they were and NBC wasn't saying anything at all, and the upfronts came and went with no decision — how worried were you that this would be it? And were you surprised when they called you up to say season 2 was a go?

Bryan Fuller: I knew there was going to be a second season, regardless, whether or not it was on NBC.

Because of the foreign deal?

Bryan Fuller: Because of the foreign deal and because of other interests that had stepped forward and said, "If NBC doesn't pick up the show, we want to." So I knew there was going to be a second season. I just didn't know whether it was going to be on NBC."
