It's been asked for before, never really thought of it until a couple of recent suggestions. We can certainly look into it but MGM are being a bit funny right now. We've got loads of requests in but they're not too interested in the UK right now unfortunately.

Next up is The Pit and the Pendulum, once that's done we'll see about the rest :)

Does this mean MGM won't license any more masters to Arrow?

Have you also considered putting out anything by Petri or Rosi?

MGM-related:

Eureka (Roeg)
The Vikings
A quiet place in the country
Miracle Mile

Non-MGM:

Invesitgation of a citizen above suspicion (I know Criterion's doing it, but Academy could do the UK region B version)
Cadaveri eccellenti and The Mattei Affair (well, one can dream)
Marco Ferreri titles
Other films with Gian Maria Volonte - Sacco and Vanzetti, The Bodyguard aka I am afraid, Open doors, Todo Modo

I was going to wait until the 80s list to hype it, but I'll say this now: whichever English-language DVD label finally unearths Johnny Mak's Long Arm of the Law (1984) is going to reap plenty of "Undiscovered Masterpiece" publicity.

It was #6 on the same Top 100 list that brought #1 Spring in a Small Town to everyone's attention. Yet I can't find any sort of proof of any sort of theatrical run outside of the Chinatown circuit.

Not at all, it just means that right now they're trying to focus on other territories and will more than likely circle back to UK requests soon.

The Italian Blu-Ray is quite sufficient.

Amen re the John Woo titles. The Japanese BD of Hard Boiled looks very good but is not English-friendly.

King Hu would be great to see in Arrow's catalogue. I know A Touch Of Zen is with Optimum/Studio Canal but Raining in the Mountains, The Valiant Ones and Lee Khan might be available?

Les Miserables, Claude Lelouch, 1995.

Unsure of the rights situation. Warner issued the VHS in the UK & States, AFAIK.

Unavailable in a English-friendly DVD (let alone Blu) edition anywhere.

Like most people I'd have a list as long as your arm but I'd like them to get Frankenheimer's The Train with dir commentary so as to avoid remortgaging the house for the Tittie release. But above all let's get The Lacemaker out there>

Another MGM title that I forgot to add is The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes - with the region 1 dvd trimmings please.

I also second Nabob's suggestion of The Train.

Forget all that arty stuff. The world is crying out for a definitive bells and whistles release of Sleepaway Camp.

In region A. Good to know the HD master exists though. Must make this a no-brainer for Arrow.

Some suggestions that I find fit in in what Arrow is trying to achieve (becoming the Cult label to end all Cult labels):

Some Giallo (one never gets enough of them)

A Lizard in a Woman's Skin
All the Colors of the Dark
The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh
Your Vice is a Room and only I Have the Key
The Night Evelyn came out of the Grave
The Red Queen Kills Seven Times

some more Japanese Exploitation (see above)

The Stray Cat Rock series featuring Meiko Kaji
Teruo Ishii's Torture series
Horrors of Malformed Men (also by Ishii)
anything you can get by Norifumu Suzuki
The Blood Trilogy: Lake of Dracula, Evil of Dracula and Vampire Doll
Nobuo Nakagawa's horror movies
Hanzo the Razor trio of movies

Japanese Arthouse (to cleanse the palate)

Seijun Suzuki's Zigeunerweisen Trilogy: Zigeunerweisen, Yumeji and Kagero-za
Akio Jissoji's Mandara, Uta and Mujo
anything by Shuji Terayama is welcome

Europe (still a lot to be re-discovered in the old continent)

Roger Vadim's Blood and Roses
anything by Walerian Borowczyck (my bet as the super-secret project Arrow is working on)
I am Curious Yellow and Blue
anything by Jean Rollin
Faraon by Jerzy Kawalerowicz
Blood for Dracula
Flesh for Frankenstein

Those are my suggestions. Keep up the brilliant work, guys!

That's excellent news - will you be continuing with the steelbook packaging for these?

Yes please, Jissoji's Buddhist trilogy is my favourite piece of ATG filmmaking.

Jissoji's Buddhist trilogy would be an excellent anouncement. This may have been discussed elsewhere, so forgive me if it has, but is there some difficult rights issue over ATG titles, apart from the usual issue with Japanese titles? Is it that they usually have more than one production company because it strikes me as odd as to why relatively so few have been made available on DVD/Blu, at least in UK/US.

As regards Arrow, any more Fassbinder would be greatly appreciated, especially seeing as AE have discontinued their box sets.
This is perhaps unlikely but I'd love to see some releases of Yoshida in the UK, and more Ôshima (Ceremonies, Dear Summer Sister, The Man Who Left His Will On Film and Diary of a Shinjuku Thief in particular). Basically anything ATG that they can get their hands on (perhaps a set compiling all 3 ATG films based on Monzaemon's 'Love Suicides at Sonezaki' with Ôshima's 'Japanese Summer' thrown in for good measure).

Good editions of those (or any non-Bava Freda) would be a boon I'd glad to support.

How about Paul Verhoeven's early Dutch work? I'm not familiar with any of it, but would like to be, and it seems a good fit for Arrow.

Verhoeven's Dutch work is an excellent suggestion. Turkish Delight is a brilliant film and one that is sadly little known in the UK. Whenever I tell people about it they erroneously assume it's similar to his Hollywood work. Soldier of Orange and Katie Tippell are also very good.

I don't want to push my luck here but er, Showgirls is missing a BD release in the UK, and the US version is Region A locked. Just sayin'.

Basic Instinct and Robocop are victims of god awful transfers at the moment, though I figure StudioCanal would never give up the former and MGM will soon be revisiting the latter.
