How about A Duel in the Sun? It's been restored by the Film Foundation but has not been released for the home market.

Here here! Still haven't seen it but have not rushed to based on what I've read about the DVD release.

I didn't see Man of the West in the Kino haul from MGM. Possibility? Seems like an obvious one to go for and a chance to get Gary Cooper in the collection.

The other title I was dying to get from them was A Fistful of Dynamite. It could have made sense.

I still kind of am, but would see how maybe it likely more goes to Twilight Time since MGM already released a special edition of it, but they're twiddling their thumbs at releasing it on Blu themselves. Always thought if Once Upon a Time in the West were with UA it definitely would have gotten at least a laserdisc back in the day.

One of my biggest hopes is for Budd Boetticher's "Ranown Cycle" to enter the collection. Fantastic Westerns!!

I'm also hoping for some William A. Wellman to show up at some point (The Ox-Bow Incident, of course, but also Yellow Sky, which is an underrated gem). More Anthony Mann, too! Especially Bend of the River, which is one of my favorite Westerns (I actually prefer it to Red River).

Yellow Sky was the first thing I thought of when this thread got split off, it would be an excellent addition to the line but I fear it's not well known enough. But it like the Gunfighter is Fox and they're not as chummy with Criterion as they used to be

Man of the West will be getting a BD release in october-november from Carlotta, so I guess a HD master now exists which MGM licences to thrid-parties.

Any chance for ´Last Train from Gun Hill´ on BD from CC ? I saw it for the first time a couple of months ago on german television; and it was great, but sadly the picture quality was just quite poor...

I'd hope to see some of the MGM titles; Man of the West and Day of the Outlaw specifically, hit the collection, but at this rate it seems that either Kino or Twilight Time will release them.

One title I'd think Criterion could try and procure is Ulmer's The Naked Dawn. Its been among my most-wanted titles since its mention in the liner notes of Jules and Jim.

I'd also kill for a Blu-ray of Son of Paleface!

Same here. It would make a great bundle with the Charles Neider novel it's based on.

I just saw a great-looking, original release IB technicolor print of it for a Brando retrospective at the New Beverly in L.A.
several months ago. It's desperately in need of a reappraisal and a restoration, but its public domain status makes that
kind of an iffy proposition for Paramount. Maybe the Library of Congress, UCLA Film & Television Archive or the Film Foundation can
get involved.

More votes for The Ox-Bow Incident (one of my favorite films), Bend of the River, and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

EDIT: Not as Western-y as others, but Wellman's Track of the Cat is another I'd be interested in Criterion releasing as well. The particulars of the color scheme would benefit greatly in HD.

Speaking of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance - I wonder if lack of release in region 1 despite multiple international releases means that Criterion is working on it. Although Warner is distributing it on DVD...

Frankly, the Batjac/Paramount titles (which also includes Track of the Cat now that I think about it) always confuse me re: who needs to sign off on releases.

EDIT: And now I'm remembering that Man Who Shot Liberty Valance isn't a Batjac title, but rather straight up Paramount (see what I mean about getting confused on these ones...). So, maybe like Hatari! and El Dorado this will eventually be Warner Blu-ray bound.

Surprised to hear people have had problems with the Liberty Valance Blu. Having recently purchased it a couple months ago, it's still fresh in my head as one of the better looking b&w BDs I've seen. I went into it with having not read any reviews for it and was blown away by how nice it looked.

I'm not big on supplements/special features, so it'd have to take a mind-blowingly amazing transfer job on Criterion's part for me to double dip.
